Diff related one wheel turns other dosnt when on axle stands

Out for a blat car feels fine goes fine but does have an odd noise At about 2500rpm , like a fluttering noise as though something is rubbing . Just had new clutch and CRB so no they are ok.  Checked hand brake is not catching On drive shaft , no that's fine . Whilst up on axle stands I thought I'd try and make the noise again as it wasn't there with engine alone. Start it up select gear passenger side wheel going round but drivers side just staggering round , try more revs wheel moves round but doesn't look to be going freely.

Is the diff knackered ? It's a standard ford 3.9 .

I should add some reasoning to show that it wasn't just a stab in the dark! With an open diff, resistance on one side with both wheels in the air, e.g. brake hanging on, will just send power to the other wheel, which is what you describe above. You could also try having someone hold one wheel still while you rotate the other to see if the diff is working as it should. The prop should spin if you have the box in neutral.
