DDubya
Thanks for the heads up Nick. Shame it's being presented by John Sergeant ☹️ Danny
Eric McLoughlin
Yes - his previous programmes on aircraft (Spitfire, Sea King) were pretty woeful - mainly because he seems to know very little about the subject mater and seems to be reading off a learned script. However, as he has now done a few, he may be getting better.
TobyCoulson
I hope so. By the time he gets to the Lightning he may be quite knowledgable 😬
Nifty
Quoting Eric McLoughlin: Yes - his previous programmes on aircraft (Spitfire, Sea King) were pretty woeful - mainly because he seems to know very little about the subject mater and seems to be reading off a learned script.Combined with the current obsession to spend more time filming the presenter than the subject matter 🙆🏻
Eric McLoughlin
Sadly, TV production companies these days seem to think that the subject matter on its own is not enough to attract interest. The programme has to be fronted by a "celeb" of some sort. I have no problem with this as long as the presenter genuinely knows what they are talking about. TobyCoulson
What's needed is an aviation equivalent of David Attenborough. Thoroughly engaging yet hugely knowleagable on the subject matter. Alain de Cadenet might be a possible candidate.
Eric McLoughlin
That role was held by Raymond Baxter. I think the programmes that use the McGregor brothers are well put together. And the ex Tornado brother is pretty knowledgeable.
Guest
I have to say (ready to be shot down in flames), I found Jeremy Clarksons program's on Brunel, The Arctic Convoys and The Victoria Cross very watchable. He may come in for some stick (Top Gear is a Pantomime) but his respect and the esteem he held his subjects was genuine, I feel. I'd like to see more serious stuff from him. Martin J
Agreed. John Sergeant should have stuck to dancing.
Eric McLoughlin
He should do more programmes like that and less clowning around. His knowledge is still patchy (his book "I Know You've Got Soul" is full of errors) but maybe if he knuckled down and did a bit of reading he'd be better. However, he is trying to NOT look knowledgeable because I am pretty sure that he is doing his damndest to be "cool" - and knowing things is so "uncool". With TG he's part of the show so has to behave in a certain way. With the other stuff he's happy to host and let the subject matter take over. Mort
Quoting DDubya: Actually John sergeant should have stuck to playing John Merrick in the Elephant Man Danny It's rumoured that he's either Jo Brand's brother, or they are one and the same person. Has anyone ever see them at the same time?
DDubya
Nick Just to name drop. I went to school with Jo and was best friends with her younger brother Matt. I have school photos which are very different. She was a very athletic and captain of the netball team. Sadly the years take their toll on many (says he 😬) Danny

Did he change his name John? Quoting DDubya: Sadly the years take their toll on many (says he 😬) Tell me about it. The face I shave every morning appears to belong to my father. Back on topic: I think Clarkson would be good too. 😶🌫️ Edited by - Mort on 13 Jul 2014 20:11:
