prangerman
I can download BBC TV programmes via the BBC TV app to watch offline, but I can't find a way to do the same for recently broadcast radio programmes I wish to download to listen to offline via the BBC IPlayer Radio app. Am I missing a trick ? Jonathan Kay
Is it that you now need to think of them as podcasts? What device are you using and are you in the UK? Jonathan
Steve Cornford
Yes BBC I-Player Radio)) This has "All programmes A-Z", although I have already clicked on the A Hope this helps
prangerman
Jonathan I use a Galaxy S3. I want to listen to R4 and R4 Extra comedy programmes I have missed while on the train. I could connect using 3G but it is a frustrating experience on my commute due to tunnels etc causing the signal to drop. Peter
Leadership Team Mcalvert Posted July 9, 2014 Leadership Team Share Posted July 9, 2014 There is a stand alone Iplayer Radio app (al least on IoS) which lets you do this. Only problem (and this is a BBC limitation) is that not all comedy is available as podcasts - News Quiz and Now Show are OK, but I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue isn't Michael. prangerman
Steve Thanks, but I can't find the programme A-Z on the app version of the iPlayer Radio. But then, I do seem to have run out of brain today.. Peter
Jonathan Kay
Here's the BBC note on the difference between radio and TV contentBBC radio downloads offer Date: 28.05.2013 Last updated: 02.10.2013 at 15.30 The BBC Trust has approved proposals from the BBC Executive to offer BBC radio content for download to bring it into line with TV catch-up programmes on iPlayer. Currently, for BBC radio catch-up programmes other than podcasts, the audience can only listen to such content on iPlayer as audio streams for up to seven days after the original broadcast. The proposal approved by the Trust brings radio in line with TV by giving listeners seven days to download catch-up content, 30 days to store it before opening and, once opened, seven days to listen. The Trust has carried out an assessment of the significance of the proposal and has also sought advice from Ofcom. The Trust’s assessment and Ofcom’s advice can be found below. The BBC expects the extended downloads offer to be available in 2014.Jonathan
Jonathan Kay
Sorry, we don't have an Android device in the office to play with AFAICT, but here's a note from the BBC. Jonathan
tbird
Just had a quick play on android , can't see an A-z, so selected radio 4 from wheel, selected categories, comedy, all comedy, selected a programme, ie news quiz, select podcasts, select relevant episode, select download. hth Tim
Stephen Long
I am an avid user of BBC iPlayer for radio. The latest app for android is excellent other than if you find yourself disturbed half way through a program you have to go back to the start. That's a real pain as I often fall asleep during evening listening 😳 Longy 😬
prangerman
Tim I tried all that but there is no podcast for this week's ISIHAC ☹️. Peter

tbird
presumably the production company,Random Entertainment, won't sell the download rights then. There are a few 3rd party apps that claim to be able to record the listen again stream but I haven't tried any. Tim
Jonathan Kay
Peter: Is that as far as we can explore that route? Other approaches I use for radio programmes are: 1 Recording from FreeView on a desktop computer, or 2 Using a third-party program (in my case Audio Hijack) that will record any audio stream playing through a computer then moving the recording to a 'phone. prangerman
Hmmm. I'll just have to sit down at home and listen to ISIHAC via the app or wait for the Sunday repeat. Next week I'll put a cassette in my old hifi system and set it to record R4 on Monday at 1830, and dig out my Toshiba personal cassette player from 1982 and listen to it on the train on Tuesday. I wonder what looks I'd get using such old technology? Peter Edited by - prangerman on 10 Jul 2014 12:40:
