Wile7
Many moons ago I had a mini pickup. Fantastic little car. Nippy, fun and a hoot to 'push on' with its tiny 998cc engine. Fast forward 28 years and last night I had to take my daughters Nissan Micra (early 1996 car) as we have sold our two main drivers. What a blast! No power steering or assisted brakes, no electric windows, light and really grippy in the twisties. Great accurate steering with feel and a really zingy 997cc engine. A truly 'modern day' mini in every sense of the word - I had a blast 😬 Edited by - Wile7 on 9 Jul 2014 11:30:
AMMO
I hired one of the those on the Isle of Man one year. Must have been 1998 as my eldest son was less than a year old. I did over 1,000 miles in a week. I did a 45 minute lap of the TT circuit! Not very fast, I know, but an absolute laugh.
virden
Ah, the Mini Pick Up. One of my student chums had one, but thought it would be useful if it could carry passengers, so he moved the rear bulkhead back by about 18" and filled the gap with a section of roof and side panels cut from a wrecked mini van. He couldn't weld so the whole lot was pop riveted together 😳. The "Mini F**k UP" as it was called did sterling service for about 18 months, but was rather prone to letting the rain in ! Richards 7
You lucky lucky b*****s 998 cc? In them days we dreamt of 998 cc!! I had 848 cc in my mini van. T'was my first 'car' and many happy memories some of which I will not share on a forum such as this. However I agree a great experience sadly lacking in todays more refined and faster cars. Martin J
A mate of mine had a mini pick up. As many as 4 of us would ride in the back through the rural lanes, at night we would all bounce causing his head lights to reach for the stars & then light up the earth earth worms. 😬 poor suspension. Now they are highly collectible.
Stephen Long
My daughter is currently running a 1993 Renault 5 ..1400 cc an absolutely ridiculous car for a jolly good thrash. Longy 😬
Martin J
You have got me feeling all nostalgic now. I came across this great bit of film from Brands Hatch a while ago, the whole thing is worth a watch but from 5mins is the first ever Renault 5 race, they do lean around Druids hairpin! here

Garth
My boy who is only just 18 now has two classic minis! Bought the first one as it was cheap(er!) to insure than anything else and has just got hold of a 1992 mini cooper 1300cc (1275?) which he is having stripped down and completely re-built - cannot wait to have a drive!
