Paul Thompson
Came across a shed of a Morgan +8 today by the roadside the fuel pump wasn't working and they had run out of petrol the owner was convinced there neded to be oil pressure for it to get power. Has any body come across this?
Stationary M25 Traveller
It may be a mechanical fuel pump ... driven by the engine ? Maybe there is an OP sensor to kill fuel pump if OP fails ..... bit like our inertia switch kills fuel pump after an impact ?
7TOM
I remember on the old rover 3.5 SD1 if you lost oil pressure the oil pressure switch would drop the earth to the fuel pump relay so there maybe some truth if the wiring architecture is the same 😶🌫️
Paul Thompson
So what do you do to sort it?
ChrisC
Power the fuel pump via a fly lead, or earth the fuel pump relay via a fly lead, until the fuel pressure is there enough to start the car.
Molecular--Bob
These pressure switches are usually set quite low, so they trigger on cranking, once it has fuel it may start, but may take a while to get fuel to the carbs.
Jonathan Kay
1 Find out if it's true: web, manufacturer, Morgan club forum etc. 2 Test the signal coming from the oil pressure sensor. (NB fault could also be in downstream wiring.) 3 Fly lead, as above, to test the theory and other components. Jonathan
Guest
Having had a number of Plus 8 Morgans, I've never heard of that. On my cars, an electrical pump has all that has ever existed. No oil pressure required.
