SUPERLIGHT91
I'm hoping to collection my Superlight 150 sigma Sat 5 July - and next week I will looking to arrange some insurance. As I'm using former no claims elsewhere and starting from scratch I will be looking for: - limited mileage policy to help keep cost down (as I'm unlikely to do more than 3,000 miles annually presently, and I have a trailer for longer hauls and jaunts) - ability to do a track day covered (I'm hoping to book on the Brands Club one 2 Sept) - roadside recovery might be handy - windscreen cover etc - Euro touring cover possibly in future - insured when trailering to events perhaps Who are people recommending currently - had good/bad experience of, and I don't want to pay a fortune for cover I don't need, just a good price sensible policy for a 41 year old in a 2010 Caterham
Jonathan Kay
There's lots on this in the archives, as you've identified in the Subject, including some very recent data. Please don't take this personally, but why open a new thread for this? I'm genuinely interested. Is it: * Search function isn't good enough/ easy to use etc * Hope (or possibly experience) that you get a better response with new threads * Something else? The problems with thread proliferation that I see are: * People with useful information get fed up with repeating it and don't post when it would have helped * It's much harder to find what's in the archives already. Jonathan PS: Frank Pickles for road: £82 premium, £112 total. MORIS for trackdays: 5 for £288. SUPERLIGHT91
Thanks Jonathan and Toby - and that is probably enough of a lead for me to make some enquiries of Pickles and Reis - appreciated. Yes, I've had a look at the former threads and just wanted to get a brief up to date couple of names like that, as a couple on the list have now been taken over by larger concerns and are not what they used to be (as I found out approaching them for motorcycle cover recently). Appreciate that and for all other leads I will refer to the original threads, as the search facility works a treat still, and I was just being lazy/cutting to the chase this morning to put something in place. Thank you for your responses it is very much appreciated today. All the best

Roger Ford
REIS will provide track day OR windscreen coverage, but not both (unless things have changed recently).
TobyCoulson
Quoting Roger Ford: REIS will provide track day OR windscreen coverage, but not both (unless things have changed recently). You're correct Roger. I remember when I first insured with them back in 2008 and I went for the TD option. I changed it to windscreen cover a few years back when I decided I was past doing track days. Apologies to the OP for misleading them. Myles
Msm will match an ncd from another car - for the first-insured car at least. Or they did when I started with them, anyway. When I bought a second seven, I had to start that cars ncd from scratch - (each car earns it's own) but I think I still received an introductory discount. Anyway, worth giving them a call. Lowest price is only a guaranteed 'win' if you never need to claim. A sensible balance of low cost vs hassle (if you make a claim) is needed, really. Alex Rae
Sadly I can vouch for how good MSM are in the event of a claim. I don't know how they compare on price as it's the only thing I renew without shopping about. Service is good, so I'm happy with them.
Jonathan Kay
*arrowup*But that relies on consistency within insurers on good claim handling. I work on the opposite assumption: it's all random. So I choose the cheapest and am happy to switch. I hope it's impossible for any individual to make enough claims to get any reliable data on this... but the accumulated power of the Club could take this from anecdote to something reliable. Ian B
Matt / Jonathan, feel free to update info in the 7FAQ/Contribute insurance list here, it's what it's there for Btw. I don't think MSM cover trackdays. Edited by - Ian B on 25 Jun 2014 15:05:
SUPERLIGHT91
Willdo - one of the two above have proved a dead loss (for me personally), the other I'm still waiting to hear back. There are two on the main list that have become similarly ineffective at 7 insurance IMHO, since being taken over, which is why I am looking around for new players (but not mentioning any names at this stage for fear of litigation - people will find out come renewal time). Its a shame we can't negotiate a really good rate as a club with one of them, that only active Lotus7Club members can take advantage of (but I guess this would be quite a complex exercise in reality as there are so many variables). Thanks again
Z3MCJez
REIS were brilliant when I made a claim. They have changed hands subsequently. You need Mary. Jez
Krismuss
I've used REIS for the last 5 years or so always paying in the mid to high £200s (170BHP car), this year it's jumped to £400 at renewal (for a 230BHP car). Pickles have just quoted £200 for the same car (albeit I've got to refine the quote still - online application only). Chris
Area Representative gileshudson Posted June 25, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted June 25, 2014 45 yr old plus 75yr old named drivers 5000 limited mileage Full NCB Agreed value for 200bhp 1996 HPC 3 trackday insce cover (or you can have Windscreen cover instead) Fully comp, including Class 1 Business use £332 . . . with REIS the day before yesterday
Area Representative gileshudson Posted June 25, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted June 25, 2014 Just to add . . . the above insurance would have been just under £300 if I'd taken my dad off the policy, but why would I when he loves it as much as me

Markiebabes
+1 I'm with the above A plan 😬 under £200 for my R400 😬 Also try Lloyd and Whyte who do trackdays and are very competitive
Mucus72
Just to clarify a point regarding REIS. I have track day cover AND windscreen cover, but I stated that I use my aeroscreen on track. So I suppose that's the same technically as having windscreen cover without track day cover but it's worth mentioning this as many of us do swap between screen types. SUPERLIGHT91
Neither Reis or Pickles seemed to work for me - came our pretty expensive with track cover and I've got a clean licence with no claims - back to the drawing board - I've been with Hagarty and Footman before and I'll try them again shortly. SUPERLIGHT91
Reis wanted £750 when I checked and they said a Superlight 150 is "a high powered kit car" and not available for less than this with 3,000 miles max, track and trailer cover. I dread to think what they'd have wanted to cover my former Duratec R500 - about £1500 by the sounds of it! I've either been speaking to the wrong person there or they are making it up as they go. Similar story at Pickles, which I can;t understand as all I'm trying to add is track day cover, and without this have never paid more than £250 for insurance previously. Jonathan Kay
*arrowup*I think that sounds like the reason why I get the road and trackday insurance from different insurers... Jonathan
SUPERLIGHT91
you might have something there Johnathan - and this is one reason I started this thread. Initially I only want to do one club Brands trackday with the car this year, and ideally a broker that will cover a single track day might be the answer - what do people use for that? Jonathan Kay
Try MORIS. But if it's more than one day it's cheaper to book them all at once. Jonathan Edited by - Jonathan Kay on 26 Jun 2014 13:46:
SUPERLIGHT91
Thanks I will try Moris next and have fired off an email to Hagerty to see what they can do for me as a returning customer.
