the article seems a little foolish, if they are trying to keep it secret to avoid people turning up to watch that presumes there will be no infra structure to deal with hundreds of spectators, as people are now likely to turn up from 04-30 ish onwards there could well be chaos, surely they would have been better off making a spectacle of it, fixing a time later in the day and having the people / barriers etc in place to manage large crowd

They aren't all coming down.

We think the best place to have a party is on Wittenham Clumps.

I had the same thought, although parking is a bit limited. 😶‍🌫️

Shame, will miss them.

Visible at ground level on a good day from just SE of Chipping Norton over 25 miles away and much further for aviators as a Visual Reference Point. Really loved by glider pilots when the plant was operational

Shame to know they will be knocked over.

As years ago whilst "dating" the now missus, one of my c'mon conversation comments was, "c'mon, I'll take you out for an evening to the King William IV at Ipsden in Oxfordshire, we'll have some great views of the cooling towers at Didcot from Well Place rd on the drive down in the 7".

Well it must have done the trick, she'd never been in a 7 before, surprise, or to the King William IV (top pub), and she's still here, some 22 years later, mind you the 7 predates her by 10 years *eek*

The skyline won't be same, just as it was years ago.

Nigel.

Petition to change the time:

Didcot Power Station is an iconic landmark across Oxfordshire and beyond. Whether you love or hate it, the towers have stood on this landscape for more than 40 years.

Didcot A stopped generating electricity in 2013 and has gradually been decommissioned over the last year. RWE npower have announced the three southern towers will be demolished, by explosion, on Sunday 27th July. Despite huge public interest in watching this, the time window for demolition has been announced as between 3-5am, before dawn.

Some of us have lived with the towers on our doorsteps for the last 40 years. Demolishing them whilst it is dark robs us of our chance to say a final goodbye. We are stakeholders in this project, yet our voice has been ignored.

I call on RWE npower to delay the explosion until 6am and work with Didcot residents to ensure a safe, organised and memorable experience for everyone.
