eagle
It would appear that councils will be banned from using spy cameras for parking offences. There are caveats such as they can still be used for red routes, schools and more though. Link to BBC article
Jonathan Kay
From what I can tell this is a constitutional mess. If it's the responsibility of local government then central government should amend the legislation or back out. I can't see any reason why legislation shouldn't be implemented by the most efficient means possible. Or changed. Saying that only inefficient methods should be used is daft. But if the charges are unreasonably high, or the money is being used for inappropriate purposes (and producing perverse incentives) those are the things that should be directly changed. Steve-B
What the instructions/mandate doesn't make clear is the mess in many city centres for road cameras on bus lanes. Yes no one should be driving in them, but if you swerve to avoid a pedestrian, or give way for an emergency vehicle you shouldn't be done. As many centres do NOT even show signs of said cameras, which I think may be illegal, this needs cleaning up too!
seventh-heaven
Is this just councils or will it apply to those grabbing wotsits at Luton Airport who have one that tries to get you if your passengers jump in or out when in the queue on the roundabout rather than pay £2 in a drop off zone? Jonathan Kay
*arrowup*I think it's still unclear what this really means: will it just be "guidance" from central government or something else? I don't know the details of that roundabout but I would guess that's both private property and subject to public highway regulations. What does it say on their uniform and paperwork? Doug phillips
So far I have seen our local one (a smart car), drive into the back of two cars . And on Monday he was parked-up right on a corner on double yellow lines *mad* . Just wished I had a camera with me 😔
