Wouldn't surprise me if it was real. I was at a downhill skate event on a closed road, everyone's attention was looking UP the hill, when a car driven by an old biddie zoomed through the finish Line, up the hill. It happened because a shuttle bus driver didn't close a gate behind him after turning around, and that the old biddy ignored a slalom through hay bales, 3 road closed signs etc... As the finish line marshals were looking up the hill after the car whizzed by the race was red flagged, and the first marshal up the hill stepped out to stop the car to find a rather bewildered lady.

It happens. I think it's called 'hiding in plain sight'. Sometimes events happen that shouldn't, it's a bit like a chum of mine who gate crashed a concert by picking up a ladder and boldly walking into the venue...it's the unusual masquerading as the mundane and totally ordinary.

Sadly not a spoof. It happened on Saturday during the Funcup 4 hour race. I wasn't there but heard about it at this morning's marshals briefing. I heard suggestions that the morons responsible were associated with one of the teams competing in that race and a bet may have been involved.

This will no doubt result in stricter controls over access to infield areas at circuits. Any competitor responsible for these morons should start looking for a new hobby.

As for how it happened, there are a lot less marshals at club meetings and until now stingers have not been considered necessary in pit lanes.

I'd guess that a lot of questions will be asked as to how they got into the Paddock, up to, into, and through the tunnel, then into the pitlane and onto a track on a race day.

The main thing is that no-one came to any harm, all things considered it could be a very cheap learning experience for the circuit.

You could do this at any club race, pretty much. The pits are "open" during a race as sometimes people have to use them. Short of a marshal throwing themselves in front of a car ...

I suspect we'll now see significantly tighter controls on garages, but the reality is, if someone wants to get onto the circuit, they can do so.

Surely though at Brands you'd be challenged on approach to the tunnel and surely you should be challenged before entering the pitlane which is really part of the circuit.

I do understand that their car didn't drive itself onto the circuit but there should be some form of restriction to stop this happening again.

As above, definitely real. A former colleague was in that race (his team mate was in the car at the time). Unbelievably dangerous for themselves and the guys racing.

I hope there's a way to prosecute them (no idea what for) and take his licence too. Again, I've no idea if that's more idealistic > realistic.

The tunnel leads to the inner paddock. On most race days that access is not manned. They then drove all the way along the garages and entered the pit lane through the scrutineering bay. Unsurprisingly this wasn't manned mid endurance race. Coming down the pit lane is where they should have been stopped, but there aren't many marshals in the pit lane. At circuit entrance they presumably just ignored the marshals that were on the end of the pit lane.

At most circuits the end of pit lane marshals would be the only ones to get you. Not all. Pembrey has better restrictions as there are no garages.

As was said in the thread earlier there is perhaps more to this than meets the eye, watching the vid again you hear him say something about 'what I'm about to do for them' and then further up the inner paddock he says 'this is us' as if he either knows where he's going or has been told where to go. Videoing the whole thing might be their undoing certainly posting it on YouTube isn't the brightest thing to do. The whole thing isn't by accident at all.

Anyone know how long it took race control to react, and what flags were displayed? If they'd put white flags out (assuming the marshals had them) the other drivers should have been able to react appropriately. Must have been quite a temptation to red flag it though.
