DohNut
There is a bit of a bike ride into Stavanger this Saturday. 12500 people I think, but I am just going out for the weekend.
Redbullwings
I hope you are getting a generous package. The cost of pretty much everything is higher, my sister has been living there for about 20 years and is rather a master at homebrew. It's a far cry from what I remembered as the stuff we would try and brew as students. I would get a truck to get around in, as you get a proper winter there. Very welcoming people generally and you might want to look into a uk streamed tv service like iptvdeals.com You can of course get I player through a proxi server. Hope it goes well

abbot
As they say in Norway "There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing."
richy
Should have time for home brewing. I'll be there for a year! Walking boots already packed. Car being provided. Mortgage arranged 😬. Just don't tell SWMBO! Richy

abbot
We did Norway last year by train and boat and it was absolutely fantastic. The train trip from Bergen to Oslo taking in a boat on a fjiord and the old train up the mountain was brilliant. The only slight down side was the number of Chinese tourists being brash and loud. Can highly recommend the Hurtigruten boat journey from Trondheim to Bergen. It is more of a Postal boat than a cruise liner, a great experience. It was expensive though. I can't believe you even TRIED to emigrate without telling her. Can't say I blame her for being mad at you for that... 😬

rgrigsby
Went to Norway in 2004 in the seven with the Se7ens list, great fun with some good roads once you get of the main stuff. Watch out for the speed cameras, forward facing and painted in an near invisible colour. As has been said I suspect becoming a home brewing expert is a good plan, one of the locals on our trip turned up at one of the hotels in his Defender 90 with a large plastic tank in the back of his own personal brew for us to try out 😬 fairly lethal from what I understand. A Ashby
My son has been studying at Oslo Uni since January, heading back next weekend. As it happens he's at Stavanger now, seeing some more of what is an amazing country, before he heads back. From what I hear, he's now a home brew expert after just 6 months - it's basically an obligatory skill out there, unless you're happy to spend £18 on two pints of (very average) lager, which I did twice when I went out with him edited to add that lager was the only choice...... Big T
As you probably know, most speak English, so no worries there. For credit cards need chip and PIN, some take signatures but not all (a problem with Singapore and US issues cards). Ensure you take your max duty free allowance, and don't get in front of a Norwegian between the plane and duty free, they max it out. Good time to go out there as there has been sunny weather recently and expected until start of August, this is my first time here in the summer, previously been during the winter, it will get a lot colder, they say Bergen area gets a warm air stream so keeps it warmer than most areas, but it rains a lot there. richy
Roger: 😬 Arrived on Monday. Managed to push my way through to the front of the duty-free queue What fantastic landscapes they have. Working in the shipyard in Flekkefjiord - quaint little town (they call it a city). Wish I had the 7 here - lots of tunnels! Richy
Super_Rich_Bernie
You might want to find out about Batchelorfests. I assumed that they involved a bunch of young guys camping out, but apparently they are camping trips for all singles. They take their home brew and perhaps something to smoke too, and go camping amongst the beautiful scenery, drink their home brew and smoke their spiffs around the campfire. Swim in the lake . Sounds idyllic. Success, I was told, is waking up to find the person you shared your tent with is as good looking in the morning as you thought he/she was the night before when tanked up on home brew. Aroundabout this time of year, near to Stavanger. sadly I can't speak from experience. Jonathan
Jonathan Kay
Get prepared for cross-country skiing: it's a great way to enjoy the forests and get some exercise. Jonathan
richy
Wrong time of year for that Jonathan . But definitely planning on trying to ski later on. Spent my first w/e walking in the local hills. The views are fantastic and all just a few km walk from the house. In the meantime, I've been offered the use of a 12ft boat, with 50hp outboard, to go fishing (or whatever else I might find to do with it). As a complete novice at fjord fishing, anybody have an idea what rig I would need?
