Guest
I have a small weep from the oil filter housing on a 1600K, from the sandwich plate I think. Has anyone an exploded diagram to show what is in there that could fail, I suspect an O ring or something similar, but I'd like to know what to order... Guest
I've done a bit more digging, and wondered if this is what I need? https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/spare-sealing-ring-for-sp-1-m-sp-1-sr
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted June 10, 2014 Leadership Team Share Posted June 10, 2014 It's very rare for the sealing ring on the sandwich plate to fail. Have you checked that there is definitely clearance between the block and the oil hose nearest the block? When fitting the sandwich plate and hoses it's necessary to remove a small corner of the block and if enough hasn't been removed it's possible that the sandwich plate doesn't seal as well as it should. Guest
Yes I am sure it's from the sandwich plate, and the hose connections do not appear to be applying tension had a really good look whilst on the ramps today so it looks like a seal. Question for me is the seal shown on the link correct?
Mankee
That is the right seal from Merlin. I posted the same link last month and ordered a couple last summer, when I had to change the whole oil filter housing. It had the tiniest hairline crack in it and I was clutching at straws, but now it is bone dry and not a single drop leaked. I had the old-style Metro type filter housing, which was probably original and maybe 18 or so years old. New one was from Rimmers and was a "new take-off" removed from a brand new engine. Guest
Thanks Mankee, I'll order one with confidence, cheers
Stationary M25 Traveller
Maybe the central nut that holds the SP to the housing isn't fully tight ?
Guest
No that was checked this morning, it wasn't tight, so thought that was the problem...but when refilled...weep......weep....
Guest
Hi, I just came across this thread looking for oil filter housing part no's. I've just cracked the thread on mine replacing an oil sender. Any chance of confirming the parts I need to replace the oil filter housing on a 1600 K series please? I. Assuming I just need the part and gasket? The exploded part diagram shows an oil filter adapter but I assume I just re-use the one that's on? Thanks
Mankee
I used item 7 from the below page: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID000078 i.e., this part at £21-odd: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-LPX100540LNEWT__O If you have an Appollo/Apollo/Appolo tank, you unscrew the centre oil filter bolt to remove the sandwich plate. Your ports arrangement on the oil filter housing may be slightly different to the new one. From memory, I had to get a blank for the port that faces south-west in the photo, there is already a blank for the port facing north east and then I used a remote T-piece in the "leg" that sticks out north west, so that I could run both an oil pressure sender and idiot light in a safer location on the chassis away from debris. Guest
Thanks for the prompt feedback. I guess on of mine is already blanked out so I should be able to re -use it.
