Which oil for diff & Gearbox ??

Hello all ,

Which oils are recommended for Suretrac LSD and 6 speed box ??

 

This thread may have been answered before ? , with the ever changing brands available which is best at the moment ??

For the AP Suretrak, any decent brand EP90 will do.

 

For the six speed, Shell Spirax G80 is very, very good (and cheap - 2.99 per 0.5l). The oil needs to be light for the g'box, so don't get a '90 grade whatever you do.

I use Redline MT-90 (or is it MTL?) in gearbox. Basically any good quality good quality GL4 oil is good for the 'box, and EP90 or

any GL5 synthetic diff oil will be fine in the diff (don't need friction additives for the Suretrac LSD).

I didn't get on with MTL at all well - didn't realise it until I changed to Shell Spirax G80 at Phil Stewart's suggestion. I'm talking about 2.5 years use of MTL.

 

IMO the Spirax G80 is much better (and cheaper).

It's all very well telling us what oil to use in the six speed box, but who can tell me how to get the oil into the gearbox? The filler seems particularly inaccessable.

Piece of plastic tube taped to a funnel. It helps a *lot* if you heat the oil first - it's much runnier!
