Cookie Monster
I have an intermittent misfire which has reoccured again & is driving me mad I've replaced the dissy cap, rotor arm, plugs & leads but it's still there. Any suggestions pls? I'm inclined to think leads but have tried two different including Magnecor ones & it's still missing although it was fine when I put it away last weekend. Markiebabes
Phil Is the coil lead near the crank/flywheel sensor ? This can cause misfire symptoms ❗ Hope you get it sorted ❗ Bleeding drives you mad *mad* Edited by - markiebabes on 23 Feb 2014 21:55:
DJ.
I'd try changing the coil next, but check the feed wire to it is ok first. I had this with an Elan, and it turned out to be HT leads, but you've done them first Duncan
7 wonders of the world
Worth double checking the Magnacor leads mine had a nick in the insulation which caused a high seed misfire. Sent them back only to get a snooty reply claiming they never made and fauly leads and billed me for a repair. So I voted with my feet
Guest
Hi Phil, It's Simon round the corner from you. I had the same problem and it turned out to be the water temp. sensor. Check/replace that before doing anything else. Apparently it is a common problem. Regards, Simon
Bio
Hi Phil You say it was ok last weekend, did anything change, did you wash the car or refill with petrol 🤔
Cookie Monster
Hi Simon Thanks - I'll check that John No, not washed or anything. It has been missing on & off for a while (as you'll recall) & I spent bout 3 hours last Sunday & thought I had it nailed; alas on start up today it seems not. As an aside I just checked NGK's site & they state a different plug that what I have always fitted: they state PFR6N-11for a k series 1.8 EU3. My car has fitted BCPR7E. Is this likely to be a problem or symptom? Thx

Guest
Had similar issue once, turned out that a coil started breaking down when warm and becoming intermittent.
Bio
Plugs should be ok....Sounds electrical. ☹️ Check tightness of big red battery cable from starter to kill switch and from switch to battery, with battery disconnected. Paul had a problem with this.
OliverSedlacek
When I had a misfire that drove me nuts, it turned out to be the alternator. Everything measured fine, the battery was still getting charged, but an intermittent breakdown in the rectifier pack was putting spikes on the battery line. Unusual, but easy to check by disconnecting the alternator.
elie boone
I would not disconnect the alternator while the engine is running, you will ruin it.
Guest
Is it missing on any particular cylinder?
Racingshoe
Misfire under part throttle that goes away under load? Mine turned out to be caused by bad wiring from the TPS to the ECU. I put a bypass wire in and it cured the problem instantly.
