Grubbster
Just fitting a new (secondhand) exhaust which has 4 primaries going into a collector - how necessary is it to fit springs to hold this together and if it is where can I get some? Mavic82
Never tried without, I suspect the joint May chatter and leak. Available from caterham at £4.50 each, demon tweeks and other Motorsport suppliers.
Grubbster
Thanks, just checked those and I don't think they will be long enough plus I need an open ended spring that can hook onto loops welded on the pipes. I'm not sure who made the pipework (the can is Raceco). I'll see if the place I use for servicing has anything that would do, it is a bit of an Aladdins cave! Stationary M25 Traveller
If you use the front mounting bush in the chassis to support the front of the silencer, you don't need any springs or bolts
Grubbster
I'm not sure I can, there is no mount for it on the exhaust and the can is very long - I'll see if I can bodge engineer a way of doing so. I have found lots of exhaust springs on eBay but none long enough yet - the gap between the hooks is 130mm.
Birkin S3 ZA.
I use ones for motorcycles but never seen one that long. Chris
elie boone
If they are too short use a small strip of metal to lengten, it's not a neat solution but it works.

Stationary M25 Traveller
My original 4:1 collector had stainless fins with bolts to keep primaries and collector together. Regularly used to bend and shear off, as the joints move with the twisting monent of the engine. With a front support and no joint fixings all is well
