James.S
Sadly, after less than 12 months with my ultimate Caterham, we must part company to fund another project. Gutted as this car is simply outstanding. here
SUPERLIGHT91
I saw it appear on Pistonheads earlier - its a beaut. (or should that be a beast?). Great piece of kit - makes my former R500D appear tame.
James.S
Mic's work is top notch. Many, many hours have gone into bespoke fixes that would just not be commercially possible in normal course of things. Properly glum to be selling her but have located a mint Mk2 Escort to build into a bespoke Grp4 Tarmac car is a rare opportunity and only getting rarer. You never know - may be able to buy her back someday. Such a great piece of kit.
SUPERLIGHT91
Yes I am familiar with Mic's work - I have bought bits off him in the past for my K-series R500, I visited his works back in the day when he was developing the first ever Duratec installed in a 7 - and some of you would be surprised how long ago that was now we take the Duratec for granted a bit. zetec
Mick is fitting nuclear fusion gen tech 2 into a seven as we type!! He well ahead of the game, on so many levels!
SUPERLIGHT91
That really wouldn't surprise me, he's done some lovely installs in the past (and not just Caterhams; Ultimas, Cobras, all sorts). I would be proud to own one of his motors - I often wonder what happened to his R500 Duratec development car - as it would be a full blow R500D, but probably kicking about on an X-plate somewhere, and it was the same signature colour as Jame's car (I colour I love 7s in incidentally). If I wasn't about to start a sizeable garage, workshop, annexe build at home, I'd have been passing the money I got for my R500D last month to James for cracking R500-killer. I'll just have to work on something similar in a couple of years when I'm all set up at home again, and make do with occasional access to brother's mk.1 Superlight for now. zetec
I knew he'd have built the f1 press car!! Did you all know that Mick built the white Top Gear r500 ?? 🥰
johnv
I'm sure you could 'lose' it in the garage extension budget with a bit of creative accounting Edited by - johnv on 19 Feb 2014 11:01:
SUPERLIGHT91
Tempting as it is - its my once in a lifetime chance to get the garage I've always wanted, and once done I will be able to create my own 7 builds in all seasons in future, so its taking residence this year year. I will just have to get my kicks out of occasional trips in my brother's car this year, and dust off the Ducati in the mean time.
Guest
With all this talk of how wonderful Mick is, its a shame he can't respond to emails or phone calls. I had to abandon my own 600/620/660 SV version as it was impossible to get a reply from him after the inital contact. It's not that I mind so much now, as the RiF v6 car came along just after I'd given up on trying.
James.S
Probably something better taken up with Mic rather than using my for sale thread
SUPERLIGHT91
At least its keeping your for sale thread at the top the list for a couple of days James - everyone in the club should have seen it by now ;) So I see it was you P DlaMere that got the RIF car - very nice shame Mic didn;t work out for you as he'd have made a great job of finishing this monster. paul abrahams
Fantastic 7 if only I had the dosh......anything built by Mick will be first class, top man ever helpful but in demand 😶🌫️ Good luck with the sale, you must be gutted to be selling her, awesome
SUPERLIGHT91
I am just curious - why is there no 'CATERHAM' lettering down the side?
James.S
Mic had supercharged down each side where the Caterham logo normally is - I prefered the Caterham logo. Was going to put them on for AUtosport but couldn't decide between white nad black, they are both still in the garage. Talking to prospective owners over the last couple of days is making me feel worse about selling her. ☹️ She is getting serviced shorlty and will be all ready for her new owner to enjoy. SUPERLIGHT91
Ah I see, yes makes sense re. decals. I feel your pain re. selling to new home. I had exactly the same dilemma with my R500D - acquired in exchange for a 911 I'd been storing for 8 years I'd lost interest in, spring 2013, spent all summer and quite a bit of cash with Caterham converting it properly from 'track' to 'track & road' car (diff. was in and out several times until I was happy with it on the road). By then winter was here, and I thought I'd have a go at a commission sale with a dealer that took 10%, on the basis if it sells it sells. To cut a long story short its with its new owner now, and I enjoyed under 500miles in her on the road in the end (and probably the most expensive 500miles motoring I've had, but in some ways worth every penny to experience a top-end 7). Back to more humble motoring for now, and hopefully in a year I'll start building my own monster from scratch in a warm, dry, well provisioned garage and workshop when finished building (the cash from the R500 will make the difference between a "garage" and "garage-I-can-live-in" during the winter months), sometimes you just have to do these things.
