Bonding Front Cycle wings

Remove the powder coat from the stay on the area to be bonded, key the underside of the wing and bond with Tigerseal tape in place around the wheel and go and have a few beers whilst it dries 😬, you can then add another run each side of the stay once the initial bead has dried, smooth off with a wet plastic scrapper.

I can't claim to have come up with this idea. It was kindly given to me by a fellow forum member called Grubster. What I can tell you is that it works very well indeed.

Regarding the big heads, I got mine from here:

You want the acrylic FS adhesive (one 25ml gun is enough) and the cable tie big heads that they do. big Head themselves do 2 types but these guys only sell the one size which happen to be a perfect fit so get those. I got a pack of 10 in the end but only used 8.

Ive seen the various postings re Big Heads for the wings but cannot understand where they add to the process.

I used the Tigerseal type product only, after the usual scraping to ensure a good bond and in two stages as noted on my build.

They were never going to move thats for sure. I must check the current car and see how they did it.

The point of Big Heads bonded to the wings is that the stays are then fixed to the bigheads by cable ties, and you can remove and refit the wings at will by cutting and replacing the cable ties.

Of course, if you use Big Heads then cover the whole assembly with Sikaflex or Tigerseal then you've lost that possibility. In which case I can't see the point either, unless you don't trust the Sikaflex/Tigerseal to do the job.

as with many aspects of my build, I did what Derek told me... *wink*

We use Terostat to bond the wings, when using it make sure you take the powder coating off the wing stays and rough up under the wing. Don't use too much to initially bond the wing. When it has stuck put some more on in the infill's using a wet gloved finger to smooth it down.
but the flexibility that the big heads give would probably cause me to do it differently next time.
