Nigel Riches
Over the weekend I removed the spark plugs, and have found that there are presently two sorts of plug installed, for some odd reason, both are Motorcraft, two off AYFS22P1 and two off AYFS22PG1 Both appear to be "platinum" types, any thoughts from the learned society here? I have had a trawl through many Internet pages, but that really is a Pandora's box. I got a price for some NGK equvalents, not nice, NZ $ 36 each, (about 18GBP *mad*) so they are still on the shelf in the shop, surprisingly. Many thanks for your time and patience. Regards Nigel. Stationary M25 Traveller
Wonder if it is perhaps the equivalent of the 'R' for resistive plugs used by another manufacturer ? Can we help by buying in UK and posting to you, or will the postage wipe out the savings ? Edited by - SM25T on 17 Feb 2014 08:17:
Nigel Riches
Hi SM25T. Thanks for the offer of buying plugs, there are ways and means around the exorbitant postage costs, so a call to Burtons may be in order. But still, what are the plug types' recommended. All very confusing. Nigel.
Area Representative z7 Posted February 17, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted February 17, 2014 When I replaced mine (Raceline Zetec) last year, they too were of different types. Like you I was confused. IIRC the set I bought from Ford, i.e. geniune Motocraft, were also mixed; and checking with another Zetec owner, he also had mixed type. I'll check what I had but won't get to my garage for a day or few. A word of warning re. Burton. Put your order in writing. They messed up a 'phone order of mine and flatly refused to accept their mistake; practically calling me a liar. I was left out of pocket to rectify. Almost forgot, buying direct from Ford / Motorcraft were the cheapest I found. z7
Nigel Riches
Thanks everyone who has contributed to this thread. It appears Henry installs the two types of plugs when the engines are supplied new, it's something to do with the wasted spark ignition, and there is a correct position for each type, being: Timing belt end P1 / PG1 / P1 / PG1 Special thanks go to Jonathon Kay for his BM and link to www.fordownersclub.com where the all revealing link to www.cgmotorsport.net found the answer. Ain't the internet great, sometimes. Regards Nigel.
