Stationary M25 Traveller
Big screwdriver into UJ to stop it turning. Hex bit with long extension to get torque wrench away from propshaft.

Stationary M25 Traveller
Minding you don't snap your nipples off 😳 Are the UJs still regreasable .... or sealed these days ?
2GBR
Or a 3/8" drive extension bar through the joint after you have taken the nipple out
charlie_pank
Put the car in gear and the handbrake on.
BigCol
with all bolts tightish... put the car in gear... torque available bolt... take car out of gear... rotate prop shaft... and repeat!
Stationary M25 Traveller
Not sure he would have had the drive shafts fitted .... or the engine and gearbox ?
BigCol
ah... that engine/gearbox combo that I had would definitely help...
evotell
Are you connecting the prop shaft before you put the engine & gearbox in? 😳
Tony Whitley
It's a logical way of building a 7 - start with the rear number plate, then the rear light blocks and work forward

charlie_pank
Because it is considerably easier to manoeuvre the splined shaft into the gearbox, than the engine and gearbox onto the shaft!
Englishmaninwales
Hmm.. I've always fitted gearbox and engine seperately, prehaps that's why I've always found it easy

Guest
Quoting evotell: Are you connecting the prop shaft before you put the engine & gearbox in? 😳 Yes built the front suspension, then worked on the tunnel, now rear end. Engine and box to go in last. Placing a long screwdriver into the UJ from above locked the prop shaft and made it dead easy to torque up.
Grubbster
Quoting evotell: Are you connecting the prop shaft before you put the engine & gearbox in? 😳 As long as the car isn't on its wheels then there shouldn't be a problem twisting the propshaft to get it aligned. I've pulled my engine out and refitted it quite a few times and never disconnected the prop from the diff.
