Dinitrol - what, where, when and how much..?

Starting my R500 build in a couple of weeks time...

Can anyone with experience advise which dinitrol products I need to use, and where I should be using them?

 

Basically I would like to know what to buy, how much of it, and where I should stick it.

Before you do anything, buy some waxoyl underseal cans, find some old duvets and roll the chassis onto its side, then spray the underside of the whole thing with the underseal.

Let it dry for about a week before you start the build (it will be hard to not start fitting bits but the waxoyl needs a little time to dry off, you'll get black wax everywhere if you don't)

I did this to mine 10 years ago and it still looks as new underneath.

i had 4 tins of dinitrol 445[anti stone chip] £35 inc p&p off ebay,its black and it reheals itself if a stone hits it,i used wax oil from day one in the footwell/side skin part.i sprayed some on the rear arch from the light unit downwards,as this acted as a cushion effect to try and stop small star shape cracks in my paint from appearing ☹️

OK thanks, so I know some of the dinitrol products are for used cars with existing rust. My question is more based on a new build - what's the best bits to coat (baring in mind my front and rear arches are carbon fibre). And then what should these best bits be coated with.

Having seen the state of some cars far younger than mine I believe that coating as much of the exposed bits of the car with corrosion resisting coatings is the best thing anyone can do to prolong the life of their seven. A little time and thought and expense at the beginning of its life will reduce the time and expense of replacing corroded items later on.

Rust weighs more than steel. How many people have replaced floors because of corrosion and rivets coming out? The underside of my car is still like new.

I used a couple of cans of Dinitrol 3125 to spray in between the side skins and the chassis rails. It's perfect for this as its quite runny and gets right into any gaps that are present.

 

I didn't even quite use up 2 x 500ml cans but they were sold in pairs when I bought it.

 

I might be inclined to spray something a bit more heavy duty into the wheel arches but then again yours are carbon fibre so largely unnecessary in your case.

 

Can I recommend you invest in some ACF-50 too. It's a bit like WD40 in terms of its consistency. It's great for covering parts that Dinitrol is inappropriate for but still requires some anti corrosion protection. It's great stuff, originally designed for aviation use I believe so well up to the job.

 

I plan to spray it liberally throughout the engine bay this winter.

I've had my car since 1982 (codger category) and when it arrived in boxes and bits I rolled it into the garage and sprayed Waxoyl liberally about everywhere in the engine bay, all the underside, all around the rear suspension, fuel tank.

 

And after all this time it still is, as far as I can see, corrosion free in the areas discussed here, side panels to frame on the forward end of the footboxes etc.

 

I bought a 1Gallon can and a hand spray thing like you use to spray water over plants and such like, warm the Waxoyl in a bucket of hot water, don't breathe the spray mist, don't wear any clothes you might want to re-use, another tip at first build is to apply copperslip or similar to the nuts and bolts, particularly on suspension and steering, so after several years of fun there won't be any cursing and swearing when something needs to be upgraded. 😬
