Tony Martyr
The engine conversion (QED+DTA) has got to the point where I have at least determined the mechanical tasks. I have bought an inlet gasket from Rover and a set of Magnecor plug leads - because the originals don't have the correct termination to connect into the Lucas (waste spark) coil. I have not fitted any of the new bits but I have sussed how to make the brackets etc. I have had a job to join the original fuel pressure fitting at the end of the metal tube through the tunnel to the JIC threaded fitting of the new fuel rail. At present I had done it by cutting the old pipe and using fuel pipe 'joiners' from Demon Tweeks and fuel line clamps. I have not found out the max pressure in this line with the new valve so am hoping the inelegant junction is up to the job. Anybody else done this? The loom is a fright. I am locating all of the systems replaced by the new loom viz: Water temp, air temp, crank angle, lambda, injectors and rev light. Then I will see what I have got over and what to do with them. On the redundancy list are the idle valve and ignition security disable switch. But I have connections for only 2 wires from the Lambda sensor and the damn thing is sprouting 4. I foresee trouble ahead.
Peter Carmichael
The Lambda sensor that you have will be a heated one designed for closed loop running. The DTA loom will be designed for an unheated (expensive) sensor purely for mapping purposes.
Peter Carmichael
James Whiting can supply fuel hoses which match up with the wierd Caterham fitting. Just specify a length of hose and it will turn up with the Caterham fitting on one end and the JIC-6 on the other.
Tony Martyr
Thanks Peter, I figured after I posted the mail the two wire system must be for a Bosch sensor. More money! Incidentally has your new machine kept a full 10mm tube fron the throttle body vent to the header tank?
Peter Carmichael
The tube fits snugly onto an 8mm spout - the tube is the same one I always had; the spout is new.
