paul jacobs
Being traditional, and having had several wrecked tyres in the last few years, I do not like to rely on a can of tyre foam, but want a spare wheel. The CSR does not have one, nor does it have any form of wheel carrier, but does anyone know if a carrier can be made up, maybe by Arch or someone else, which could be bolted on? The wheel itself shouldn't present to much of a problem, as a front wheel would do it, and if it has to replace a rear, then a spacer would bring it close, obviously reduced speed and care would be needed, say 90mph instead of 120! 😬
jimh
I think there have been previous threads covering this very topic. I don't think the carrier is really the main problem for having a spare wheel on a CSR. Apart from the different diameters of the front and rear wheels which could cause the LSD problems. As you have noted you also need a spacer because the fronts are machined to a larger offset. The standard CR500's diameters are 554 and 569 mm 7x 15 et40 - 139mm backspace 9 x 15 et30 - 158mm backspace Previous thread here Edited by - jimh on 4 Aug 2013 17:25:
paul jacobs
Thanks Jim, I thought we'd spoken about this a few times in the past, but really have never concluded anything. To me, the answer is a removable carrier, holding a CSR front wheel, which can then be used on the rear, with or without a spacer. A LSD would add complications, although my current CSR has an open diff. however. I've just spoken to Bruce at Arch, who has said that he will look at the idea and see what he can come up with. I mentioned that he may sell several if he decides to make them, to make it worth his while. I said I would phone back in a few weeks to see if he had managed to progress the idea. So, there could be some light at the end of the spare tunnel. Paul.
