Birkin S3 ZA.
Not sure if its well known or if its been done before, the early silver top and blacktop piston and rod are interchangeable as long as you swop over both piston and rods. Just rebuilding a 2.0 silvertop and had to pinch my spare blacktop crank, as the rods had to be resized I just checked if the blacktop ones would fit and they will. The rods are longer and the pistons shorter for the blacktop with a small dish in the crown and different piston pin but it would work. Together with the blacktop head gasket that's 0.7mm to 1.4mm for the silvertop the squish would be about 0.8 / 0.9mm that would be much better. Chris. Rob Walker
If you want it to go then dump the stock pistons as the compression ratio is too low. Supertech produce some nice forged pistons for the Zetec
Birkin S3 ZA.
Rob this motor is for a club member its only done 5000 miles, it runs a Birkin made sump and one of the baffle plates came off and got sucked on to the oil pickup. Seized on three big ends and bent the crank. A few months ago I ported the head and fitted some Kent cams it makes 208 hp My motor runs Wossner forged pistons with 12:1 comp and 251 hp. Chris.
