My 91 xflow's oil guage (electric) seems to have died. So the oil pressure light comes on permanently and none of the dials work at all, now. Lights, indicators etc okay. Heating buggered, but that's another story.

 

Any advice on what do to re dials and oil?

Sounds like the familiar tale of a duff earth. try the one under the scuttle on the passenger side Charles.

Also check the wire where it joins the sensor in the engine block. Mine usually breaks/drops off at that point about twice a year !

Thanks for this. Have searched for wire under scuttle and found, er, many. Had a little fun adding up the different colours of wire. Got bored at 14 and wonder; whatever happened to green, blue and brown?

 

Also, sensor seems tightly on, so no poor connection there.

 

I bared my ignorance to one or two people yesterday at Pease Pottage. A blown fuse was the consensus. And they reckoned an earth had gone on the car.

Its not as simple as that. The earth under the scuttle may seem to be tight but it has to make good contact with bare metal. Mine seemed tight but was causing similar problems to yours. It is black with an earth ring on it. Take it off and get some bare metal.
