Marius
I just completed my work to fit alloy Aeroquip-hoses-and connectors to my dry-sump-system, oil-cooler etc. Now it looks like several fittings are leaking oil, d....d !! Are there any recommendations about how hard the fittings should be tightened ? I´m little afraid of over-tightning ´cause it´s alloy but a leaking 7 is not the best thing then. Any advises ?? Please help.
Tony Martyr
Difficult to measure torque on pipe fittings! Suggest you don't just rely on the clamping force. If there is any damage to the sealing seatings they will leak however tight they are done up. I would undo each one, and check they are seating then reassemble using a smear of the Loctite pipe sealant (whose number I forget). The do them up as tight as you dare - that just comes with expereince but stripping anything over a 1/2 BSP with the proper size of spanner will take serious effort. Marius
Thanks Tony, I´ll try this evening. Results will be measured by amount of swearswords per minute....
Red SLR
Marius Try some PTFE tape around the fixing before you tighten it. If it leaks after that then you have a problem. Simon. X777CAT
Marius
Na Simon, Aeroquip will have a problem. I´ll send them back their lousy and ridiculous expensive fittings if it all won´t work. Well, can´t imagine that at least, it´s being used by these fancy racing-teams, must be something good about the fttings. Hopefully!
Red SLR
Sounds like a good plan. But the PTFE would have worked...... wink.gif Cheers Simon. X777CAT
