Philip Eaton
Has anybody any experience in fitting an alluminium block to a Vauxhall HPC?? Is it a worthwhile mod??
Alex Wong1697456877
Seems alot of money to save some 20kg and I've heard that they are unreliable, but I've never tried a car with one. Peter Carmichael
Graham Ford (Chelspeed) spent a year trying to get this to work before giving up and rebuilding with cast iron. He has shown how it is possible to get a VX car below 500kg, so why bother? Any dabbling with an ally block definitely takes you into the 'experimental engine' territory where there are no guarantees. Caveat emptor. V7 SLR
I wasn't at the Emerald RR day so my last chat with Graham Ford was a while ago... however he mentioned he was thinking about having another go with the alloy block again next year. I think the problem was to do with the nikasil (spelling..?) coated liner, and QED may have found another solution. If he's at Santa Pod on Sunday I'll be sure to ask him again. [FX: thinking] Another 20Kg off his already super-super-light car eh..?
