R500 build

Martin Ray

Recommended Posts

I am taking delivery of an R500 kit soon. I have read the (new?) manual - but it doesn't seem to deal with R500 specifically.

Has anyone a list of the differences from the manual - or just some advice on the parts of the job that are likely to need clarification?

Anyone near Oxford built one?

Martin, I built my R500 and think it was the first one on the road (15th March 200). The build manual is complete crap and most of it has little relevance to the R500. The exceptions are most of the front suspension and the entire rear De Dion & axle build.

Play it by ear but if you get stuck, either ring Caterham, or E.mail me direct (or John Richens who also built his), If I can I'd be pleased to help. I'm in Sussex by the way.

I don't know if it's any help but there's a half

built, cut-away display R500 in the showroom at

Caterham. It may be worth your while going down there with a camera and giving it the once over.I

did when I was making my car and found the pics.

invaluable(the suspension is all fitted and easy to

see)

Keith, I'm sorry to say that Comma Girl (M******), does know what I look like which is probably why I got "the attachment" and not you (although the slippers definitely did have something to do with it!)

I would also like to point out that, in the same way as you, some of my chatroom friends know what I look like; - you for one, Anna, Lord Wong, Chris Clark, Chairman & Mrs Roger Swift, Roger Green etc. etc.

You name it, I've probably got a picture of it. You and Anna, the Comma girls (front and rear), Roger S spinning, KJ's slippers, Alex Wong cracking nuts, the Festival party shots... Need I go on? As the editor I get sent everything - you should see some of the stuff that I just can't put in LF...
