Martin Ray
I am taking delivery of an R500 kit soon. I have read the (new?) manual - but it doesn't seem to deal with R500 specifically. Has anyone a list of the differences from the manual - or just some advice on the parts of the job that are likely to need clarification? Anyone near Oxford built one? Jules Martin
Martin, I built my R500 and think it was the first one on the road (15th March 200). The build manual is complete crap and most of it has little relevance to the R500. The exceptions are most of the front suspension and the entire rear De Dion & axle build. Play it by ear but if you get stuck, either ring Caterham, or E.mail me direct (or John Richens who also built his), If I can I'd be pleased to help. I'm in Sussex by the way. Slipper man
Caterham have told me that there will be a new manual that includes our cars, and gives instructions on using the Stack syatem at the end of this month. I'm not holding my breath though!!
Jules Martin
Keith, let me know when you get it then I can pester them. Jules
andy oliver
I don't know if it's any help but there's a half built, cut-away display R500 in the showroom at Caterham. It may be worth your while going down there with a camera and giving it the once over.I did when I was making my car and found the pics. invaluable(the suspension is all fitted and easy to see)
Martin Ray
You would think that Caterham would take the opportunity to photograph the showroom R500 and include the pics in the new manual - wouldn't you? I am not holding my breath!
Martin Ray
Another related question. Arrowstar have talked about a replacement R500 silencer that will enable me to get below the limit for Castle coombe etc. Has anyone sortd out this problem? Jules Martin
Martin, talk to Jez Coates at Caterham for the full SP. It's not just the silencer, it's also the induction noise which is over 110db's. Buy a "Supertrapp" and wait for the new airbox from Caterham. Andrew Walker
Keith - you live so close to Caterham that you could probably borrow the cut-away R500 from the showroom overnight - or at least pop down and peer through the window if you get stuck. Jules Martin
Nah, Keith wouldn't do that, - it's cheating. Anyway he doesn't need to, he sits in his slippers & smoking jacket and lets the hired help get on with it! Jules biggrin.gif
Slipper man
I am ashamed to admit that I have yet to start building it yet.... You windbags-in-training are jealous - you'd love to have some comfortable, stylish footware like mine. Admit it!!
Jules Martin
Keith, if I wore "comfortable stylish footware" like you, I wouldn't get sent private attachments by Comma Girl! biggrin.gif Jules

Slipper man
Yeah, but has she ever seen what you look like? At least my chat room freinds like Anna know what they are dealing with.... Some might find the slippers homely. My grandchildren do. Damn - I shouldn't have admitted that blush.gif
big daddy
Grandad, let me know if you need help with the build. I'd be interested in getting involved - could be useful in the future...
Jules Martin
Keith, I'm sorry to say that Comma Girl (M******), does know what I look like which is probably why I got "the attachment" and not you (although the slippers definitely did have something to do with it!) I would also like to point out that, in the same way as you, some of my chatroom friends know what I look like; - you for one, Anna, Lord Wong, Chris Clark, Chairman & Mrs Roger Swift, Roger Green etc. etc. Jules teeth.gif

Jules Martin
Dear Roger, what photos might they be? Jules blush.gif
Roger Green
You name it, I've probably got a picture of it. You and Anna, the Comma girls (front and rear), Roger S spinning, KJ's slippers, Alex Wong cracking nuts, the Festival party shots... Need I go on? As the editor I get sent everything - you should see some of the stuff that I just can't put in LF...
