chris perry 1 Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Hello, Could someone please advise the best method of replacing a 2010 de dion a frame bush. The metalastic bush from caterham measure 27.1mm od and the id of the de dion tube where the bush press fits measures 26.95mm. I just can't see how you are to press the new bush in place given the 0.15mm tolerance difference. Are you supposed to heat up the de dion tube and freeze the a frame bush in order to press fit it in place? Or is it easier to use a Powerflex a frame bush that is easier to fit? Thanks in advance, Chris Perry
Simon.H Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 If you've already got the old bush out then a Powerflex bush will definitely be easier to fit (speaking from experience).
6speedmanual Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 The metalastic bush is an interference fit. 0.15mm will go. Do not heat the axle. Chilling the bush is ok but probs unnecessary. Either take axle off car and press in bush in large bench vice or install in situ using threaded rod and thick washers to pull it into position. Some grease to lube helps and also prevents future corrosion of the bush to the axle. Peter
