Sorry to be thick but on R500D should all the oil drain from the plug at the base of the dry sump tank? perhaps I'm just thick but I cannot see another drain plug on the engine sump.

I've removed the dry sump plug and I've taken the filter off and that drained some oil but it doesnt appear to be the whole 7ltrs its meant to take. (Perhaps I was'nt topped up?) I'm thinking of removing the oil pressure sensor? to drain some more from the engine sump.

I want to make sure its completely drained before I refill with new oil.

I did this job on my K series dry sump last night, so its quite fresh in memory!

Assuming the D is a similar set up with a bell housing tank, unless you do the job just after the engine is turned off, alot of the oil eventually ends up in the sump rather than the bell tank.

Therefore, what I do it use the starter motor to help pump the oil out. I disconnect the injector loom to stop them firing, remove the spark plugs so the engine is free to spin with no compression and then crank the engine on the starter motor. This drives the scavange pump and returns the oil to the bell tank from the sump and out it comes through the drain plug. When I do this, the RPM barely registers on the dial, so I guess its only spinning at 100-200rpm, so Im happy for a short period to pump the oil out.

there's a small 25mm diameter black blanking plate held with one Allen screw on the sump pan just ahead of the bellhousing . remove this plate and withdraw the finger filter behind it.
