Casbar
I've just bought a 4 -1 Comp exhaust from Caterham. i've a 91 x flow. Can anyone advise on how to make the exit hole larger from the engine bay, so 4 pipes can fit through. (Clean answers only please) Robert
John E
You may remember that I carried out this mod a few weeks ago. Try a pair of curved tin snips and a half round file. you can cut out reasonable lumps with the snips and then tidy up the edges with the file. I used this method along with some emery paper and the resulting hole is both tidy and with smooth edges. I havnt yet painted the edges but thats a winter job. All you have to look forward to then is making sure that your new expensive silencer does not bottom as mine did. Happy snipping
Graham Perry
Alternatively buy an Abrafile (not sure of the spelling) from any DIY shop . Effectively is a very ,very thin file wrapped around a tight wire in a frame with a handle and you can cut in all direction very easily. Don't even think about using a powered jigsaw, as the ali in the area of the exit hole is unsupported and it will catch in the teeth of the saw and bend. Glenn Wheeler
I used a rotary abrasive flap wheels in different grades, this gives great control and smooth edges.
Pierre Gillet
You can use a powered jigsaw to cut an aluminium sheet with a piece of thin plywood tightly fitted undernearth the ali sheet so that you cut both the plywood and the ali sheet at the same time. A specific blade with very small teeth must also be used. Pierre
