Klemheist Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Good evening gentlemen. I have a 20 year old x flow that's done 2500miles from new sitting at the end of a new 5 speed box but cannot get the carbs to run smoothly, cough, splutter, cuts out. So having spent most of the day playing and then decided to go to the pub for brain refreshment I give up. Do we have a local expert ??
6speedmanual Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Northampton Motorsport if it can splutter its way that far. But there must be something in Notts. Have you searched www or back pages of Motoring News? Alternatively, strip and clean them yourself if you have time/inclination. Overhaul kits are available. They are probably just a bit gummed up. At such low mileage unlikey to be any wear peoblems. Good luck Peter
Blue in Lincoln Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Try Nick Day at Willow Sports Cars in Newark. Helpful, knowledgeable and first class service. His number is 07551601959 Cheers Paul
Clousta Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I had some similar problems with my 22 year old 9,000 crossflow that had been SORN for 3 years when I bought it. Before focussing on the carbs I started with plugs, leads, checking points and coil etc. A hesitation/misfire at mid revs was sorted by using the vehicle and changing the idle jet sortied out the carb spitting. Cooling system has also been overhauled. Cutting out in hot weather and traffic on its journey to Belgium was probably a combination of all factors - not repeated itself. Later perished fuel lines causing the electric fuel pump to pump air and fuel to the carbs raised its ugly head. So my advice would be to check everything. p.s. also a choke cable had been fitted as was used to start the car rather than a prod on the accelerator. The choke cable isn't used any more. Supersprint1988 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Balancing the carbs helped a lot on mine ( sure it wont cure all the symptoms ) If you need a flow meter I am just around the corner. Cheers Carsten
Klemheist Posted March 12, 2011 Author Posted March 12, 2011 So I took the carbs apart, followed the fuel line, fuel pump etc it turned out that crap being sucked up from the tank was restricting fuel flow. Thanks anyway lads.
