Area Representative marcos59 Posted March 7, 2011 Area Representative Posted March 7, 2011 On 2.0 Duratec dry sumped 260bhp spec. Oil 10W60 Castrol Edge Sport PACE DS Engine just refresh but had similar symptoms before refresh Static at idle (1200rpm): Cold: Oil Presure 60lb / Oil 10° / Water 10° After 5mn: Oil Pressure 40lb / Oil 40° / Water 70° After 10mn: Oil Pressure 30lb / Oil 60° / Water 75° New values: With 65° oil (Can't get hoter in static) 3K: 52/55lb 4K: 60lb 5K: 65lb 6K: 70lb And come back to idle at 22/25 Oil pressure value seem quite low to me and I do not understand why (engine checked) oil quite thick I would need advice from Duratec owners about value and what could make it low? - Oil choice ? - Gauge? (SPA digital not the poor caterham one connected on a T on oil filter holder is this could this be an issue ?) - Pump ? 7 wonders of the world Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 What DS are you running and what is the hot oil pressure at 3k, 4k, 5k, 6k, etc these are far more important than the idle reading. Post some more numbers an we may be able to help.
Pendennis Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Yes, as he said I doubt those figures at idle are any different from mine. I use same oil
Racing Snake Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Just an observation, but i think the oil temp is also too low With a Laminova fitted to mine i am seeing 90 degrees C for both water and oil with a much fast warm up on the oil An excellent upgrade

Pendennis Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Carl, warming the oil up will only reduce the pressure. Marcos pressures are probably fine Edited by - Pendennis on 9 Mar 2011 07:30:29
Pendennis Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Has the idle pressure dropped recently, was it higher previously or are you just concerned? Does the pump have a regulator valve on it? Maybe a service on it is due! What size pipe work serves it? Edited by - Pendennis on 9 Mar 2011 15:33:37

Edited by - Pendennis on 9 Mar 2011 15:33:37 Thanks for your answer. - Idle presure is the same since I bought the car 2 years ago (It is a 4 years old conversion) - Pipework are (big) Dash 12 - I not familiar with DS pump: What is a regulator valve ? It have an adjusting screw in a nylock but I think it is for ajusting flow but not oil pressure
Pendennis Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Hi Marcos, that adjusting screw is a means of setting the flow/pressure. If you alter flow you also alter pressure I suggest you discuss this with the manufacturer of the pump, might be a good time to get it serviced
