RussJing Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Hi Everyone , Does anyone have an idea regarding a Battery upgrade for a Rover powered K 1.8 Roadsport (1999). The currently fitted Banner Battery is quite new but lacks start power, (the battery charge state is good). I wonder if there is an alternative out there which has similar dimensions to the Banner 530034 that is fitted . All the best Russ.
CageyH Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 If the battery is in a good state, the problem is elsewhere. Check the earths on the battery cables etc. However, my money is in either the starter, or the solenoid cable being fried as it passes the exhaust manifold.
Johnty Lyons Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 CageyH is correct the problem is certainly NOT with your battery. Suggest you trawl the archive.
Sheds Moderator Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Any motor factor can get you an equivalent, so can tyre/exhaust/battery places, I know Varta do one that's identical. As others say though if it holds a charge then the battery is generally OK. One check, if you have an electrical tester (and if you don't, buy one, they cost £5 in Maplin and make electrical fixes easy) then you can check the voltage across the battery terminals when it's operating the starter. If you disable the ignition you willget a good long spin without the engine starting and a healthy battery will hold 9V or better while cranking. If you have no voltmeter then turn on the headlamps and if they die completely under cranking the battery is suspect. There's a section in battery testing in FAQ (top right of this page). If it's not the battery then you need to check things like earth lead connections and security/cleanliness of starter motor feed wires. Good luck and happy diagnosis.
