Alan Reeves Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I have my spanking new SV 175 7 kit and I am about to work on the rear end - brakes in particular - and find that the calipers are not new . All I want to know is from new owners of kits, is this what you recieved ? To date the service fr om the people at CC has been excellent although there have been shortages, they are small and have not held me back to much. But the above? alan
Stationary M25 Traveller Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 That doesn't sound right. Just because it is a 'kit car' ..... the parts must still be new 😳
Alan Reeves Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 Im away tonight for a couple of weeks but want to pursue whilst on the road, new kit owners needed to respond. and IMO is ??? what is with all these abbreviations? alan
Sheds Moderator Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 IMO: In my opinion. Abbreviations? It saves typing the whole lot out every time.
Garth Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I think the rear brakes on my new build were not entirely new, it looked like the 'bodies' were reconditioned and reprayed (spring was badly sprayed!) - all the other bits I could see looked new! I assumed all the working parts/seals etc were new. I did not question it at the time! From memory I think all the bits are meant to be new - can one consider a completely re-conditioned unit to be new? I would have a chat to Caterham.
Sheds Moderator Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 No, a reconditioned unit is NOT new. It may be as good as new in service, but new it is not.
Alan Reeves Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 They are definately reconditioned and resprayed, the ones that came with the kit were so bad in that they even managed to spray the springs, they sent better ones overnight which bwas great, but I do not think the fact that they are not new is acceptable ( big words eh ) so I need some more info from the vieweres and will plod along and see what happens. As I undertsand it the reason given is no new ones being made, does anyone know where these come from apart from FORD, I am not around to call up as about to fly away ....will be watching the site though. alan Abreviations are great if both sides know the words ....
billyboanerges Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 For shorthand translations go to urbandictionary.thingy!! Google it. I can now communicate with teenage son! Good luck Tony PS - I gave up on leaking FRONT callipers 7 leaked so payed for upgrade
myothercarsa2cv Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 As I understand it, there are no new Ford calipers and CC are looking to swap to VW units. Though, Rally Design claim to have some new ones here. I'm not sure where this puts Caterham in terms of being able to get an age related plate at the IVA - as I understood it only one component was allowed to be reconditioned, and I believe that is the diff. Are they still going to offer a certificate of newness for the cars? P.S. My fronts leaked too. The caliper halves hadn't been done up tight enough. Nipped it up, no more problems Edited by - myothercarsa2cv on 2 Mar 2011 16:17:34
Alan Reeves Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 I bought the upgraded front venty discs and they are lovely, just the backs are the issue. Fortunately the kids are beyond the teens, I lived in Jamaica for some time and you end up with a second language going on with the patoi, and I clearly have not kept up with the ABR version. cheers alan
