Drifter Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 My steering on my car seems too light (in comparison to my old 1.6VX and a Supersport R I drove for a couple of weeks). The wheel does not "wriggle" as much as I would like and it does not have the weight and feel that I want. Anything that can be done to improve this? I like my helms as heavy as I can get so find this quite annoying . The can is bog standard i.e. widetrack and CR500s...Any ideas?
6speedmanual Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Morning, Drifter. Have you had a full geometry check/set-up? This would let you know where everything is pointing and possibly decide on some changes. Dialing in more caster will generally make steering heavier, but beware losing fine feel. Which steering rack do you have? The 22% faster rack will give more weight. Peter
Stationary M25 Traveller Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Tyre pressures too high ? Engine lighter than a Vauxhall lump 😬 Roads greasy ? Memory poor ?
Steve-B Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 🤔 not eating enough / not enough pies over the winter break 🤔 Edited by - Steve-B on 26 Feb 2011 09:00:37
Z3MCJez Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Castor. As Dave J says. Move the washers to increase the castor. quick rack will also help. Jez
OliverSedlacek Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Lack of 'wriggle' might just be a lack of bump steer.
Drifter Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Thanks all - I knew I could rely on you for some advice 😬. The car was flat floored at the end of last year and has had its alignment and tyre pressures looked at so think all should be OK on that front. It does have a standard rack though so did the other cars so was hoping the current system could be improved? Will try the castor as my pie eating habit has remained much the same and I like to believe the old grey matter has not started to fail me just yet!! 😬
Jason Plato Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 my pie eating habit has remained good lad !
