On my S3 I have pre 2003 front wheel bearings. I am looking to uprating to the larger bearings (after 2003). I am hoping I can retain the alloy hubs and just replace the stub axle and bearings. Has anyone done this and could confirm this is all I need to do. Looking at CC website they want to sell new hubs as a kit 😳

Recently done it myself, bought the kit from CC, and as Mic said....

The stub axles will come out with good few hammer blows....make sure theiy're not pointing towards the car!!!!!

The new bearings will require a press to get them in...

Thanks Guys, looking at the differences via the CC website, it appears the stub axle is a bit beefier on the outer area as is the outer bearing, but the inner bearing and stub axle section looks the same.

Need to save up 😬

Good upgrade IMO, if only to ditch those silly felt 'seals'. Old vs new picture here from when I upgraded mine after a wheel bearing ceased.

I took my uprights off and put them in the vice for better access. Easier to beat the old stubs out *smile*

Just got home and found the kit has arrived, well done CC *thumbup*

Ian your right, one side is sealed and yes they are repackable. They (new inner & outer bearings) are very similar to the existing inner, though more roller races and still repackable.

I haven't got round to putting it together yet, but I have got a question to Shad or anyone else who has done the upgrade and can remember *wink* The kit comes with a fat and thin washer, where do they go *confused*

Would I be right in presuming the thin washer goes between the inner bearing and upright face and the fat washer goes between the outer bearing and the retaining nut *confused*

Cheers

Yup that's right on the washers. I ended up buying a couple of extra of the thin washers from CC to get my discs perfectly centred in the calipers, think I have two on each side now *smile*
