Leadership Team Midas Posted February 19, 2011 Leadership Team Posted February 19, 2011 O.K. I have all the bits for my Apollo installation laid out in the garage - read all the posts and looked at all the pictures - and still cannot work out with confidence how the joints fit together. So some advice please 😬 the little braided hose from cam cover to top of appollo - I assume the little brass washers fit under the nut on the inside of the cam cover (or outside?), and on the other end seals between the tank itself and the screwed in union. The Dowty Seals - I have five? - I assume they go on the four joining unions - two go between the adaptor plate and the screw-in union (to seal the metal to metal joint), and the same the other end to seal the union face to tank joint. Therefore no Dowty seals on the four flexible pipe to screw in union joints. Which leaves one spare Dowty? (a spare?)
Wrightpayne Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Midas, on cam cover I think I put copper washer on outside. Re dowry washers - they only go between alloy items and the steel fitting. The hose to steel fitting has a sort of taper seat that seals once tightened. Ian
Bricol Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Hoses simple seal on the conical faces - no seal (or tape) needed. I have a dowty seal on the tank drain plug. Other seals as you say, between all hose adaptors and the take-off and tank. With the cam cover fitting - put the fitting through the cover from the inside out - with the nut on the outside. Washers inside and outside, or inside if you only have one. Then if the nut comes loose, the hose attachment will hang on to the fitting and stop it dropping into rotating bits. Never heard of one doing so, but once the thought crosses your mind . . . Bri
Leadership Team Midas Posted February 19, 2011 Author Leadership Team Posted February 19, 2011 Thanks Guys - Bricol I have copied your suggestion about a Dowty seal on the drain plug and ordered them from the same E Bay supplier - at 20p each it's a cheap and effective alternative Regards 😬
Titanium7 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Ian Coincidence but I have just come out of the garage after succesfully fitting my Apollo kit. I read many posts here on the tribulations of fitting this kit but fortunately it went very smoothly and, fingers crossed, no leaks. 7.6l of Comma 5W/50 went in before it registered on the dip stick. Oil pressure was quite low compared to before but comes up when the the revs rise. I drilled the cam cover 9.5mm and then used the steel connection union to cut its own thread into the alluminium with a spot of Locktite and then a copper crush washer on either side and the nut tightened on the inside of the cover again with a spot of locktite. I did use the foam on the inside, others leave it out.  Mines a CAGED (metric) chassis so the tank is mounted on the crucafix and the hose connections point to the nearside of the car. The header tank had to be moved off the top crucafix to accommodate the tank.   Â
