Kevsta Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Hi all. I'm stuck in this sh1t near high wycombe in the tin top (mk4 golf v6) and the clutch pedal has moved v close to floor. Difficult to engage gear. I've been in traffic for two hours so know what caused it. Could it just be heat or am I fecked as the clutch master or slave cylinder have gone? Anyone know where these are on the golf? I'd call the aa but I've passed lots of broken down cars and they'd take hours anyway because of the traffic. Advice please.
Kevsta Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Fixed it! Pulled the clutch pedal up and it then went dong. Now working? Anyone know why it did this? Is it impending failure? At least I'm home now
DJ. Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I'm glad you got home OK I'm no expert, but it may be the cable is about to break and is sticking. Assuming it's not hydraulic of course, I've never owned a Golf.
Stationary M25 Traveller Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Maybe a self-adjusting ratchet at the top of the pedal arm ? Glad it went dong and not twang !
jj48 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 A lot of VW Golf's suffer from this problem-at the top of the pedal is a metal plate that is welded to the pedal and it is this part that breaks of resulting in pedal going to the floor. Have re-welded them together to get customer mobile but main stealer will fit new parts! Regards Richard
Kevsta Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Thanks all. Did some reading last night and saw the pedal issues. Also seem to be a lot of master and slave cylinder issues. I've looked at the pedal and it doesn't appear to have broken. All the plastic is where it should be. I'm not convinced which is the issue. Right now it all feels fine but I can't drive it incase I get stuck again. My thoughts are to replace all the above to be sure. What do people think? Kev
Sheds Moderator Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Sounds mechanical/pedal/linkage related rather than master/slave issues. First things first, is it cable or hydraulic?
Kevsta Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 It's hydraulic. I'm gonna take the pedal off tomorrow to rule it out. Don't want to be replacing things if they don't need doing. Oh the joys of cars!
