Tricky Dicky 40 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 ☹️I am thinking about either replacing the entire engine or the bottom half of my 1.8 "K" series Roadsport/Supersport. Could anybody please point me in some directions of supply or surplier or recomendations of who may be able to asist with this.
jackb_ms Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 DVA Power is your man Jack Emily, The Very Yellow 21
Mankee Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Doesn't a 1.8K Supersport use a bog-standard 1.8K bottom end which is common to plenty of Rovers, Elises, Freelanders etc., just with different oil pickup, sump and associated parts? If so, there's a very plentiful supply at breakers and eBay.
Markiebabes Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 There's one in for sale section by "the mad hatter" two options "k" or Duratec Mark Penn7's area Stuff R400 pure fun ( more so with Aero fitted ) Webshots here
Johnty Lyons Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 why replace the bottom half It's a K all required parts are available without having to replace it. Speak to Oily.
Archie Procter Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Mankee is right, they're just standard engines, no need to go mad unless you're looking for upgrades, big power versions etc. Much as I'm sure the recommendations on here are excellent. Are you talking EU2 or EU3? If the former 1.8s are plentiful. I believe there are many interchangeable components between 1.6 and 1.8 as well... If I were looking at straight "no frills" replacement I'd be off to the Rover breakers or ebay as Mankee suggests...
Grubbster Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 This is a nice one here, all ready to drop in and go.
Johnty Lyons Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Just remember the block will need modified to allow fitment of a Caterham starter. But you could use your own block which was what I was alluding to in earlier post
Irrelevant Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Just remember the block will need modified to allow fitment of a Caterham starter. You mean grinding down the block to make space for the starter? That is simple enough - you just have to make sure you grind down just enough to allow the starter to fit - much more and you're likely to go through the block.
oilyhands Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 It will also need a spigot bearing and sleeve in the end of the crank.. oily
Ivaan Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 If you're going to use a standard engine and grind off for the starter, you'll need to re-stamp the engine No and you'll need evidence for the DVLA Clive
Tricky Dicky 40 Posted August 19, 2010 Author Posted August 19, 2010 Thanks for all the info, Ive taken it on board and take my time on just how to proceed. Thanks once again. 😬
