OliverSedlacek Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 As the seven is enjoying a bit of enforced down time, I thought I would finally have a crack at designing a better heater/fresh air system. I used to have the old recirculating heater, which was actually a pretty effective heater, but rashly upgraded to the newer 'fresh air' type a few years ago. I was disappointed to discover that it didn't work well as a heater in cold weather and produced warm air in the summer, even when the water valve was off. My proposed plan turns the system upside down. I'm going to try sucking the air out of the footwells and blowing it through the heater matrix so that it comes out under the dash when you want some warmth. To cool things down I'll have a moveable flap that diverts the air up and out of the bonnet louvres. If anyone is interested I'll post up some photos and blog my progress.
OliverSedlacek Posted August 10, 2010 Author Posted August 10, 2010 Well I've put some photos up and it's looking promising. The next step is to wire up the fans and then I can put the scuttle back on.
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted August 11, 2010 Area Representative Posted August 11, 2010 Very neat Oliver. Mine, likewise, doesn't fully shut off nor creates real warmth in the winter. The former is extraordinary really. For the latter I suppose I would have to use a hood but more warmth would be welcome (I have been covering part of the radiator to reduce the cooling there). Democratic dissent is not disloyalty, it is a positive civic duty.
OliverSedlacek Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Progress, the engine ran tonight I've put up a few additional photos as most of the bits are back in. Unfortunately the fuel hose to the carburetor has sprung a leak, so it's not safe to drive
