Repairing dents on bonnet.....Advice please Result

Having waited over 3 weeks for my 7 to be repatriated from Andorra. I took delivery yesterday only to find someone has been rather careless ☹️.

 

The bonnet now has 2 small dents (but dents that nevertheless weren't there when it broke down *mad*).

 

The recovery company have asked to see the photos and for me to provide them with an estimate.

 

How easy/hard will it be for someone to repair these very well (paint does not appear to have cracked)?

 

Any recommendations in the South East (I'm in Orpington, Kent) to go to or am I realistically looking at a new bonnet and respray?

Chris, you need to find a good local dent man and they should be able to get that smooth again, try talking to local 'prestige' main dealerships as they'll know someone who can make delivery/ car parking dings vanish *thumbup*

Bad luck Chris ☹️ No small dents those IMO - looks like someone or something has leant against the car 😔

 

Ali is very difficult to work and I doubt that dents and ripples could be taken out of a curved section like that. Even if it could be done, the time and skill involved would most likely cost more than a replacement - generally around £50 to £80 used or £175 new. You could try a post in Wanted? At a rough guess the paint job at TSK would be around £150 with those fancy stripes of yours.

 

Mind you, as you're the victim of a complete lack of care by the recovery company I'd be inclined to get a quote from CC and let them build the legwork into their price.

A T Launder in Bromley might be worth a call / visit (020 84649399). I've not used them personally (was going to but sold the car with dents n'all instead) but I think a friend may have so will ask about the quality of their work.

I had exactly the same problem when my car was repatriated from France in 2008. By the time I saw the car I was outside the time limit to deal with the company & I was more involved in repairing the engine (throttle butterfly screw went AWOL).

 

So this is what I did: I placed the bonnet on a rolled up duvet & used a softwood stick to carefully massage out the dents. Can only just see them now. However I suspect a dent repair specialist would eliminate them.

 

The dents are probably caused by a recovery monkey trying to refit the bonnet. Pushing down on the bonnet as he pulls up on the front bonnet clip.

I had 3 small dents removed from the rear of my 7 after I failed to secure the jack properly! 😔 I used a dent removal specialist local to me (Wilts area) who made an amazing job of the repair.

 

Cost is normaly in the region on £60 per panel.

Spoons, sticks, dry ice, boiling water, rub bacon on it and bury under a full moon . . . yes it might improve it, but IMO the only way to get it looking as good as it did following its recent rebuild is another bonnet. Happy to be proved wrong, but at the end of the day this damage has been caused by a company charged with taking care of your car and they failed, so why let them off the hook with half measures? Also, taking another look at your photograph it looks like at least one of the louvres has been flattened - I wouldn't be too confident of an invisible repair on that.

 

I wouldn't faff about with it, and i'm a world class faffer *smile*

Agreed Cruds, Once aluminium has stretched it is very hard to get it 'perfect' again, and where the damage is someone lese's fault I'd only ever be happy with perfect!

+ you will have gained a reasonably good spare bonnet to keep/flog...

Hi Chris- had a very similar dent to that on my 7 and used a Dent Magician to remove most of the dent. You can hardly see the damage now. May invest in a new bonnet next year though- but thats just me being as i caused the problem in the first place!

New bonnet *thumbup* I think you've made the right choice.

 

Looks to me like someone has sat on it, and it's led to two creases - one each side of an ample 🙆🏻 Very annoying ...

Result *thumbup*.

 

Had a call from the recovery company today and they have agreed to me purchasing a new bonnet and getting it repainted. They will even let me buy some new decals etc. 😬

 

In return they require the old bonnet back and will pay postage. I have asked them to consider letting me have it back for the price of the postage. I guess procedures have to be followed ☹️

 

Nevertheless it has been resolved without any hassle *thumbup*
