jabbers Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Hi guys, Loving the noise of my R300 but think i really do need to quiten it down, ☹️ booked on the clubs trackday in Oct at Oulton Park, but worried about the noise testing, car currently has 4-1 exhaust with de-cat pipe, do still have the cat in the garage though, would it make a big difference and pass the 105db with the cat on or do i need to be purchasing a silencer ?? Thanks Mark
naddy Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Mark I'm not really familiar with the R300 silencer, but is yours repackable? ...if so that might be the answer? ISTR from reading on here that the cat may not reduce the noise much. Nick
Markiebabes Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Also if on roller barrels air box may help quieten it down My R400 (k) measured 100db dead at bedford 4500revs with a repacked exhaust 😬 HTH Mark Penn7's area Stuff R400 pure fun ( more so with Aero fitted ) Webshots here
Adrian Williams Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 R3/4/500 silencer is re-packable. Assuming it has sufficient filling in it getting under 105db will not be a problem so just enjoy the noise. Adrian
jabbers Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 Thanks for the replies guys, car is on RB, not sure if is repackable how do i know sorry if sound stupid, but not mechanically minded at all 😳, just want to make sure noise will not be an issue for me at Oulton in Oct...... Thanks Mark
Adrian Williams Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Mark Standard R3/4/500 exhaust is 4:1 via a cat or cat by-pass pipe to a short silencer. The silencer has 6 dome headed allen bolts on the front flange. If yours looks like the description you have the standard exhaust from that period which is re-packable. To re-pack it take the silencer off, clamp at the front and bobbin on the rear bracket. Then take out the 6 dome headed bolts mentioned earlier and the outer sleeve can be taken off complete with the front flange. Adrian
jabbers Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 Adrian, it is re-packable then as exhaust has those bolts, thanks for your help and patience 😬 Mark
Markiebabes Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 As Adrian above but with pics 😬 Can't get link to work ☹️ if you blat mail me , I'll forward you the PDF 😬 Mark Penn7's area Stuff R400 pure fun ( more so with Aero fitted ) Webshots here Edited by - markiebabes on 4 Aug 2010 19:08:03
