dalongbloke Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I know what you're thinking.... Hazard light switch! Replaced today with no difference. Also replaced indicator switch and relay. Could a dodgy FIA master switch affect this? if I wiggle the wires to the switch I can get something to click near the fusebox, not sure what! Has anyone any suggestions where to start looking for a solution? Spec is 1996 underdash handbrake xflow live axle 5 speed sprint aero! Thanks in advance... Stationary M25 Traveller Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 When you say relay, assume you mean flasher unit ?
Kevsta Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I'd start by checking power supply to the switch with a meter. Then check power from there.
dalongbloke Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 Yes M25... you're right. I tend to call any box that clicks a relay! Thats my next move Kevsta, once I can find the live feed. Just wondering if there is anything obvious I'm missing.... Check out Hal... http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/dalongbloke
dalongbloke Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Right... this is stumping me a bit!! The feed to the hazard switch should be live I think, regardless of ignition. There are six pins on the hazard switch... when I check the six corresponding sockets with an earthed test light, NONE are live !??? So power does not seem to be getting to the switch. I rechecked and tested the fuse, no problem. Also confirmed a live feed in and out of the fuse, and into the flasher unit. I tested the new flasher unit to make sure it clicks on connection, which it does. Does this mean a broken/damaged wire from the fuse box to the hazard switch? Anyone got any other ideas?? Bricol Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 What do you mean - licks on connection? It clicks as you plug it in? As for live at the switch - only if you provide enough of a path to earth from the feed into the switch for the flasher unit to operate. If it's a two pin flasher, remove it and bridge the connections with a flying lead - you should then have a live at one pipe of the switch, and operating indicators or hazard should simply switch the relevant lights on. Maybe. It's how I wired mine anyway. Bri
EFA Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 This is a common problem. The issue you have is a bad connection on the back of the hazzard switch. Wiggle it a bit and all will be well for several thousand miles. Worst case, buy a new switch. Full Terms and Conditions of this post can be read here.
dalongbloke Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 EFA, please see first post, "Worst case, buy a new switch"... I already did. Bricol.. the flasher unit clicks when connected directly to battery. Both old and new units do function. Your comment "only if you provide enough of a path to earth from the feed" makes sense. I used a test lamp directly to known good earth. When ypu say 2 pin flasher, mine has six pins on reverse. BUT I think I know which should be live input so will try bridging it. Thanks for comments.. ALL ideas welcomed Check out Hal... http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/dalongbloke
EFA Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 OK, so check the connector pins have not expanded as not to make a good connection. Full Terms and Conditions of this post can be read here.
dalongbloke Posted July 31, 2010 Author Posted July 31, 2010 GOOD idea.. will do that tomorrow. Thanks Check out Hal... http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/dalongbloke
