If you have not raced with Semsec before, then you can at Brands on 12/9/10, they are offering race membership and registration at a discounted cost of £10.00, yes that's just one brown one" class="smiley" /> If you have a Caterham, Westfield, Tiger or any type of kit car or a Saloon there are 3 races to compete in. There are also two single seater and Porsche races planned, with sprinting in the morning. Racing is always competitive but fair and no team orders are allowed<img class='"smiley"' alt='"toothy' src='"images/smilies/teeth.gif"' data-cke-saved-src="" smiley"=""> Competitors, marshalls and volunteers are always very welcome. Anyone needing assistance in taking part or marshalling can email me at Durabang (at) sky (dot) com Cheers Ian Want to rent an 18th century Farmhouse in Rural Somerset?

Hi Ian,

You say there are 3 races for Caterhams - Is that:

South East Sports Racing and Kit Car Challenge

SEMSEC Intermediate Kit Car Challenge (engines under 1.6l)

I've got a 1.6l Sigma Caterham. A friend has a 1.8l K Caterham. Which events could we enter. And what would the cost be?

Also, if we did the sprint too, what would that cost? (Is it even possible?)

Hi Jez.

There are two SEMSEC sports racing & Kit car championship races at a cost of £335.00, suspect they would both be 20 laps each plus qualifying 20 mins.

Then there is the South East Sports Racing & Kit Car Challenge and Intermediate Kit Car Challenge which are combined with the All Comers Closed Wheel race, once again suspect this is 20 laps plus 20 mins qualifying, cost would be £100.00 if you participate in the 1st race above or £210.00 if you don't.

So that makes 3 races. However, I am looking at the entry form which also lists a handicap race, which once again you could participate in. That would have qualifying and a 15 or 20 lap race, cost would be £60.00 if you have completed in all the above three races or £100.00 if you don't.

Hope this is easily understood, if it is not you can ring me on 07770666356.

I will be doing three at a cost of £435.00, definetly the SEMSEC double header, but not sure whether it will be the all comer or the handicap jobby. Normally the handicap jobby is great fun, bit like a sprint with other cars on the track.

This might be one for me to bring my car to... I am/was running it in Class 1 of the Britcar Masters where we are just off the pace of the CSRs, but that series has been curtailed. It's a Superlight R, on slicks, with various mods. Am I likely to be welcomed???

Another friend has a Juno (think Radical with a 250bhp Honda Civic Type R engine, slicks, wings etc). Is this likely to be eligible / welcomed in the all comers event? It would be fun to get the cars out together

Regards, James

HI Jimmy.

You and your mate are very welcome. The Juno would be in the same race as you, me, all the other Caterhams, Radicals and Jades etc. That would be the SEMSEC Sports Kit Car race.

Also your both eligible for South East Sports Car Challenge which for this meeting has been amalgamated with the all comers closed wheel. So, basically you and your mate would be in the same races, but not in the same class.

Your SLR on slicks would fall into class 8. From memory there will probably be a S3 Caterham Duratec, CSR and a Westfield in that class.

I have an SLR as well, but this year I am using 1b's as are most of the Caterfields. There usually is quite a few R400/C400 Caterhams so some good close racing.

Ian *wavey*

I'm interrested in the handicap race

My car is S3 Duratec supawide with cage on slicks or R888.

I'm French live near Calais so Brands in very near for me.

However I do not have anything related to british motorsport: MSA logbook etc..

Can we sort something ?

Posted

Marcos, your need a race licence whether it is a MSA or French one. And sorry, I don't know anything about French motorsport industry, but I am sure the french equivalent race licence would suffice.

However, if you applied for your ARDS and MSA pack now, you would have time to obtain a British race licence by then.

Ian,

Unfortunatly I didn't take my french race licence this year (around 450Eur).

What is price of MSA one ? I'm affraid it would be prohibitive for only one race at the end of season .....and anyway I perhaps should be UK resident to have one *confused*

Is SEMSEC offer this discount on regular basis ?

Hi Marcos, I think to do your ARDS here would be more than 450 euros, not much but more. I don't know anything about French race licence sorry. Once you have done the ARDS you only pay for licence renewal every year, which is about 40 euros. But as your not UK citizen this maybe not relevant.

Semsec have dropped there race membership for the remainder of this year calendar to attract some newbies. Brands is always a more expensive event for the club, we just have to accept that as it is that type of circuit. But normally a race day at Lydden can be had for 220 euros. Sometimes they offer a race on the day for peanuts.

If you can't race, come along and watch *wink*

All sounds good and I am filling out forms for the Kitcar Doubleheader and the All Comers, so 3 races

One more question... when I look at the regs my Superlight R looks like a Class D car. Tyres are also described as open in the detail. Above though you mention many runners using 1b tyres and refer to my car on slicks as being class 8. Am I reading the right regs or are there some developments, sub-classes or whatever? You can tell I'm new to this series!

Hi Jimmy, brilliant hope you enjoy the day *thumbup*

The relevant regs vary upon each race category. Thus the two types of races your entering have different regs.

Therefore:

In the SEMSEC kit car double header your SLR on slicks will be class 8, but if your shod with list 1b's your be in class 6. (you can choice) *cool*

In the all comers race tyres are free and your be in class D with all 7 type cars, no matter what tyres you or your competitors use *thumbup*

Look forward to it, can't wait August has been a quiet month *mad*

Thanks for informations Ian,

Race licence here is 450Eur a year

What is ARDS? Medical tests ?

Your right have a look could be a good solution. I could find some friends interrested by a day out in Uk with their caterham. Could you let me know if entry is free of charge ?

Regards

Wow 450 euro's 😳

ARDS is the driving test you must take and pass to become a racing driving here in the UK.

Medical test may or may not be necessary depending on your age. I am not 100% sure on the age limit, but I think if your 40 at time of applying, your need a medical from your GP, presuming you pass this would last you for 4 years. But if you are 45 a the time of applying, your need a medical every year.

Not sure on cost to enter, but expect it to be a maximum of £10.00. However, there possibly will be some spare tickets available from some of the racers, but don't bank on it.

*wavey* Hope to see you on the day *wavey*

I see youv'e entered James *thumbup*

Provisionally, so far there's about 23 cars entered in our races, comprising 5 Westfield, 9 Caterham and 9 Radical types. Though, I expect these to rise during this week.

Though, in total there are 9 races on the programme, so should be a good days racing ahead.

There does appear to be spaces available should anyone decide to enter at a late stage.

See you there *wavey*

Yes, I'm racing. Will split races with my regular co-driver. He's faster than me but don't tell him I said that. Just put the forms in to amend it this week. Sounds like fun. I got a pass from the mrs for the day despite having acquired no2 kid 2 days ago. Must try hard given all that!

At a guess, same at Lydden I suspect. We are down on numbers but hey there's a recession *mad* Good day for the club *thumbup*

Jade's are quick aren't they *mad* your see one Jade at Lydden, that's something to do with regs *thumbup*

A really good today. Fun, clean racing, not too serious and decent grids. I think we held our own but we did have slicks! We will try to make lydden but with no2 son being 7 days old I am pushing my luck. Add to that Zubin and I doing 24 hour race and it's looking a challenge. We will do our best and maybe I lend the car to Z - not so easy as racing me!

Jezza - it's son no2. Christopher Michael Charles. Keeping me up at night. Clearly if I'd slept well I'd have been banging in the 48s instead of the 50s to Z's 49s

Well done James and Zubin. Nice to meet you both, car is quick but you have got to get rid of those bags under your eyes *cool*

If you can't make Lydden this year, please try in 2011. Your love it no matter how much sleep youv'e had *tongue*

I've had a look at the Lydden entry - as before, the number of races and their names is a challenge! The possibles for us look like...

B - sports racing and kitcar championship

E - sports racing and kitcar challenge

G - Inter kit car challenge [maybe not caterhams]

H - JT Handicap

I - invitation

We'll probably leave the car on slicks for this meet and see if we can sqeeze another meet out of them. We'll think about it as don't want to drive on useless tyres, but don't want to splash the cash unnecessarily!

As for the "quick car", I think you'll find it has only 150bhp, but the drivers are unnaturally gifted, as well as being witty, intelligent, drop dead handsome and good with the ladies 😬

James

Posted

Your not quite my type James, nor is Zubin, don't be offended 😬 *wink*

150bhp *nono* I don't think so 😬

Leaving it on slicks is no problem, in fact I might go back to them 😶‍🌫️ Lydden is quite hard on tyres, the faster you go *wink*

Semsec Sports & Saloon kit car champs double header class 8 (slicks)

South East Sports Racing kit car challenge class D (tyres free)

JT Invitation handicap (tyres free)

Inter kit car challenge is not for Caterhams over 1600cc on slicks, but you have 4 four races above for you two.

This year the Caterfields at Semsec decided to go list 1b's to save money, personally it is not my choice but I would always go with the flow. It is a bit frustrating watching Caterhams disappear in front of you, when you can't do much about it. Slicks are so much more fun *cool*
