Mat Norris
Help!! I have just developed a misfire/lack of power/pop from exhaust type fault. I have checked all obvious electrical bits but nothing seems out of the ordinary. However, I have taken the air filters off and fuel seames to be dribbling out of one set of air horns, during running, which seams out of the ordinary to me! I am working down in essex today but need to travel back to Glos. tomorrow! If anyone has any ideas they would be most appreciated! Cheers, Mat mnorris3@mail.ford.com or 0468 548280
Chairman Roger
I know that you say you have checked all the electrics but it is very easy to overlook a poor connection to the alternator which will cause a misfire (believe me I know !)Does your revcounter flick (quickly) during the misfire ?(indicating an electrical fault) Remove connections to alternator, tighten up with pliers, clean alternator connections as well as possible (difficult) and retry. Good luck Roger
Casbar
If there is fuel running out of the carbs whilst the car is running, it sounds like a problem with the jets or floats on the carb you are having a problem with. Can't help without seeing them. It might be worth giving Roger King a tinkle, he might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck, Robert
Pierson Broome
Do you have a rev. limiter fitted? If so, have you tried disconnecting it? There's been a recent thread about an electronics clash between some limiters and some ignitions - I've seen similar symptoms to yours manifest themself in this way on someone else's car. Might be worth a try. Not sure that the fuel dribble isn't perhaps a red-herring - my 40DCOE's dribble, too, sometimes - think that this may be a 'feature' of Webers on a 7.... Guess it depends on how much fuel we're talking about. Good luck. Pierson Edited by - Pierson Broome on 21 Sep 2000 15:08:
Rory McLeod
Dont know how old the car is, but if all else fails try a plug lead change. They do break down over time and can lead to intermittent firing.
Simos
I had heard that there was some dodgy (cheap) petrol floating around, especially after the recent delivery problems. The rumour mill would have you believe that it is manufactured in eastern europe and is specially formulated for 1972 Lada's.... if you filled up at Bloggs garage it might be worth while getting a tankful of Shell or BP's finest, just a thought. StewartG
I understand that on top of paying the highest petrol prices in europe we always have put up with inferior petrol it's what most manufacturers in my motor bike days blaimed carb icing and a whole load of other ills on. Mat Norris
Thanks all, after speaking to roger king and checking the bits you all suggested, its now sorted. Not sure exactly what the cause was, but a carb dismantle (Took them apart, blew on various bits and put back) seemed to do the job!
