Andrew Dent
Are the 4 screw threads poking throught the scuttle captive in the chassis, or will they drop as soon as they are undone? Andrew
Alex Wong1697456877
I've stared at these bolts and wondered as well. For a brief moment, I thought about finding out the easy way, then thought better about it. I'm sure they will drop out. Arnie Webb sent me this years ago when I asked him how he made his scuttle removable. Not complete instructions but perhaps Arnie could elaborate? ==================== If you buy two scuttles and get a few minor mods made to the chassis it is possible to have removable scuttles - one with a screen and wipers and one with aeroscreens. [Me} What mods are needed to chassis and scuttle to allow a change-over between screen and aero-screens? [Arnie] Basically, you can swivel the wiper motor around so it bolts to the scuttle not the chassis. The fuse box can be mounted on the flat surface where the heater goes (if you have a heater, or on a K series where the ECU is located this could be a problem). The scuttle is secured by four nuts on studs which stick up vertically just below the windscreen stay bolts. If you have knee trim panels these will be in the way so you have to do without them. The plate which the scuttle is sandwiched between where the steering column passes through needs to be extended approx 2" vertically so the wiring loom and speedo cable pass through the chassis not a hole in the scuttle, - Thats it! ====================== Alex Wong www.alexwong.net _________ / / ___ _/______ /_ ___ / (_) (_)/ /`-'/o/ _______ o/`-'/ / /// ( VDU7X ) \/ / /___/--_________/--/___/ Edited by - Alex Wong on 19 Sep 2000 01:05:

Andrew Dent
Alex, with my mechanical skills, that is the sort of thing that usually happens. managed to put it back together. Glad the engine did not fall outwink.giftongue.gif Andrew
Alex Wong1697456877
So they are captive I assume. Do let me know how you get on cos I'd love to do the same mod to my car. Cheers, Alex

mike ashurst
Alex, the pictures of your car shoow it with mirrors attached to the windscreen pillars. Where can I get some from, and is the fixing a custom job by you? Thanks, Mike
Alex Wong1697456877
The mirrors are SPA convex ones from Demon tweeks. One of the windscreen mounting screws was used and another hole was drilled and tapped for the second screw. A neat solution is to bolt them onto a set of plastic wind deflectors so that they are easily removable and allow the sidescreens to be opened fully. Andrew Russell
I use the same mirrors although have fitted them to the sidescreens in the same position as the standard mirrors. No door opening problems and excellent rear vision. Because of ther light weight, vibration is not a problem. Andrew
deanteam
Hi everybody I changed the electrics last winter and put a new piece of aluminium beneath the scuttle so I could mount all relays, coil, safety switch and general bits and pieces on this. It makes work on the electrics so much easier no high bloodpressure whilst sitting upside down in the seat. I have two scuttles one with windscreeen, where I have mounted a bracket to the uprights so the motor stays on the scuttle. The other one I use just has two mirrors on it.What a grin I get on the track! The 4 screws are welded in to the chassis. http://home.sunrise.ch/deanteam/eigenesweb8/stammseite2.htm A picture of the electrics
EFA
Referring to Alex's request for elaboration, I have since adopted the garabaldi teeth look and gone full time JPE screen. If anybody really really wants to know how to do this, then it does involve getting your chassis modified by Arch Motors and is really only something which can be incorporated into a reskin or something as to do it properly the whole chassis would require re powder coating.
