captain chaos
I went for a spin yesterday and a piece of plastic sheet got caught on my left wish bone...and yes, you guessed it, the trailing ends have melted onto my exhaustmad.gif. This must have happened to someone else, I would appreciate advice as to the best way to remove it. Is it just a case of running the engine and scraping it off? Chairman Roger
Warm the spot with a blowtorch and then rub with fine wire wool Worked for me.
Glen
I have had similar problems with bits of my car cover - double the annoyance because the cover's no longer waterproof on that spot. Should have been more careful. Must admit that I couldn't be bothered to clean it off - it just burnt off over time, but was only a little spot. John E
I had the same problem with one very large bag and removed the major part with the exhaust hot. I used a wooden spatula? the rest was removed with wire wool and finished off with metal polish. Best of luck
Nick
I recall someone once saying they used oven cleaner, though I'd try it on somebody else's exhaust first! wink.gif Nick
Roger Green
Good to hear I'm not alone - My cover has 3 tank tape patches... I used the same removal technique as the other Roger.
Edzup Ezzer
In the past I've used Mer car polish/cleaner (as sold at Kit Car shows, NEC exhibitions and Halfords etc) to remove tar from the exhaust with great effect - might work on the melted plastic residue left after scrapping the excess off and not abrasive like wire wool etc
CHRIS CLARK
Not a unique problem I'm afraid! I cleaned mine with a rotary BRASS repeat BRASS brush in an electric drill. Came off ok & then finished it off with "Solvol Autosol" & cloth. It looks better than it did before!!!!!!
