brake light switch problem

Do you mean you are replacing the hydraulic brake light switch with an electric one (mounted on top of the brake pedal), or removing the faulty hydraulic switch and fitting another one of the same ? If the latter, you will need to bleed the air out if the brake system after replacement.

If the former, leave the dead hydraulic switch where it is (doesn't interfere with the brake system) and fit the electric switch to the brake pedal.

and in this one see the post by V7 SLR especially:

there is a thread somewhere talking about changing from hydraulic switch to electric, which I did on my BDR and never had trouble since, except the electric switches periodically (every two years) seem to fail.

Put "brake light switch" in "search" on blatchat and very large number of threads appear.

I hope something here helps - as I can see you are actually asking about a different specific.

edit: the received wisdom is to change to an electric switch- is my point.
