dino ferrana
This will cause some controversy again! I just need to know what the fastest time a Caterham has posted to 60 on any type of tyres. I am winding up some Americans again and I need a fastest time to hit back!
dino ferrana
I was expecting a lightning response on this one! I would have thought Mr. Edmands would have been only too happy to provide his quickest drag run to Sixty. As long as the claim has reasonable back-up I can put it on the R and T site. Thanks in advance Dino Ferrana

pablo
i think i remember watching a documentary about accelleration and they had a tennis player on there who was hitting a ball at over 130 mph and the 0-130 speed was under a second. obviously this has nothing to do wiht cars but i thought it rather interesting and worth mentioning, is that the door?..................... oilyhands
Didnt Chris Allinsons twin bike engined Tiger do 0-60 in 2.9 seconds during his 0-100-0 trials? Not a Caterham but a similar type of machine. dino ferrana
I believe so shortly before it exploded! I really need Caterham times from the likes of Dave Edmands et al!
Graeme Smith
R500 - 3.4 seconds IIRC according to my Shell Optimax Top Trumps
Julians Biatch
yeah and remember that is 'standard' and straight from the box!
dino ferrana
I have already hit our Septic friends with that now I need anything quicker than that from the modified Caterhams on Slicks!
murph7355
Standard in the same way a 1.6 Focus is standard? I think it'd be hard to get too big a number off that 3.4 figure in a 7 and would doubt that anyone's broken 3s. Put another question back to them - how fast does a Z28 Camaro Thunderbird Floatmonster go round corners. Or ask them how small they can fold their roof up. Trevor Phillips
Dave must be off-line [doing some work for once]. The Santa Pod tickets don't measure 0-60mph. It gives (from memory) 1. reaction time; 2. 60 foot time and speed; 3. 1/8th mile time and speed and 4. 1/4 mile time and speed. If I remember rightly, Dave's 1/8th mile was under 7 seconds at 103mph.
dino ferrana
The problem is that Americans only like going quickly in a straight line! Corners upset them and their cars hence how their devlopment has gone!
V7 SLR
0-60 in minus 14 seconds using my infinite improbability drive. Sometimes it's so fast it hits 60 before I've even got into the car. Once, I clearly remember one 0-60 run which enabled me to take my 2 week holiday all over again because I'd gone back so far in time. teeth.gif I'll get me coat. Seven in SA
Graeme, Is the R500 one of the best cars in your set of top trumps. I used to love playing that as a kid, from memory of how it worked I would imagine that the R500 would do quite well, apart from top speed. Although in these modern safety orinentated times they have probaly added a number of airbags section. Just can't see the kids getting excited over a car with eight airbags as apposed to six. Julians Biatch
i agree with Dino, look at the Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette. 898bhp, 254mph, goes well in a straight line but turns like an Oil tanker in a storm!
edmandsd
0 - 107 mph in 6.9 secs i.e. 1/8th mile times - The car at that time would probably have knocked a further 1/10th of a second off elapsed 1/8th mile time with speed remaining the same. Don't know what that relates to re 0-60 mph, although it's probably just under 3 seconds. Next time car's out it'll be 20kgs lighter, 8bhp up and have a sequential gearbox. I'm hoping for sub 6 second 0 - 100mph times and I'll hire out some Correvitt gear at Santa Pod to find out for sure.

I reply to every thread
"Goes well in a straight line but turns like an Oil tanker in a storm!" Or a bull elephant with a limp, or a school bus with a puncture.
Simos
Don't knock those bull elephants Aves, they can be pretty sparky when they want to be.
edmandsd
10.69 @ 131 mph You've obviously got something against live axle cars AVES - Any car with a spool is hard to turn.
Graeme Smith
R500 beats everything else in Top Trumps on 0-60. But not too good on anything else - top speed, fuel economy, number of seats... TVR Speed 12 wins everything on top speed, the Reliant Ambrosa (?) on fuel economy. Anyone figured which is the Top Trump card they haven't released many of? (Collect all 18 and pick the car of your choice at the motor show). I've got 15 of the 18...
Mark Piper
Sorry, I've got a set of Top trump cards with some dodgy Sbarro ****el engined creation that beats everything else in the world on every category due to it having an engine capacity of 4 x 678.678776655 How much Optimax do I have to buy to get a set of the ones Graeme Smith's got?
