Badger Bill
OK, a right girlie request coming up, my little smoker has managed to pick up some nasty looking water marks on the bonnet where water has stood and the sun has shone through the puddles, leaving marks. Is there something that I can do to remove them without getting physical on it? I don't want to use T-Cut, as this seems a little too harsh, I was thinking more along the lines of Mer, or a good low abrasive polishing product, etc. Any advice appreciated. I really don't mind putting a bit of effort into doing it, but I can't seem to find a solution without going to an expemsive detailers and this really is not an option either. Cheers BB PS I've tried a good colour restore and although it is better, it is by no means near what I want as an end product.
Stationary M25 Traveller
How about a little vinegar, or limescale remover. Don't leave it on too long, or use on hot paintwork.
Badger Bill
I live in a soft water area, so I don't think it is not lime or somesuch, it is actually marks in the paint, somehow. But I like the sound of a simple solution, so I'll give it a whirl. Cheers. BB
Stationary M25 Traveller
Maybe your rain came from a hard water area ??
IKB
Soft water area........since when has it rained upwards? In downunder 😬
Badger Bill
Girls, girls. The standing water is equally likely to be from where I washed the car, and not just from the rain. Although I am not the most prolific of polishers, it has been known to happen. BB
Markiebabes
Bill Clay bar it ❗ you will be amazed 😬 it will take out minor inperfections and make the finish like glass 😬 The wifes car sat under a drip in an underground car park,it had a bad lime mark on it ,took a while but it came out 😬 Clay bar kit here Mark 7 Webshots here R400 😬 pure fun ( more so with Aero fitted )
Badger Bill
Nice one, I may try that, certainley a better first option than the £350 detailing quote I have from sources unknown. 🙅🏻♂️ ❗ BB
Pierson
Alternatively, try Meguiar's Paint Cleaner (From Halfords - here) - it's part of a 3-step process (the other two being polish and wax, in that order) but as long as you protect the paintwork after you've used the cleaner with your favourite wax, you'll find that this stuff does the trick without being abrasive or indeed, chalky. I've used all 3 parts extensively and always been more than happy. Pierson
MADMALC
Try 'hob bright', the stuff you use on glass cooker hobs. It is very good on lots of surfaces. You probably have some in the kitchen already, but ask if you can borrow it first. Try it on an out of the way bit of paint first, better safe then sorry. skydragon
Come on guys get a grip. Take it out on a track a few times, thrash the nuts off it and get a load of stonechips.... then you won't be worried about being a polisher Edited by - skydragon on 7 Jul 2009 17:26:
Badger Bill
HA! Fella, this is a car that has done 40k miles, that I am putting over a thousand miles a month on. 😳 So I don't think that I can be accused of giving it an easy life! Up close the rear wings look like they have seen plenty of action, however there is nothing wrong with stopping a problem that exists getting worse BB

Badger Bill
I tried the good clean bit, and it got some off, but not all, there seems to be residual marks that cannot be cleaned off with elbow grease. You in tonight for a viewing? BB

Markiebabes
Bill what colour is your car ? Is it metalic ? Mark 7 Webshots here R400 😬 pure fun ( more so with Aero fitted )
Badger Bill
Solid green, not metallic. Fingers crossed the above will make a difference. The main reason for doing it, is that the rest of the car is so nice, it seems a shame to let this part of it spiol the overall picture.
