Pete
Spotted on a bridge over the M20 last Friday, a white van signwritten on the side in large friendly letters: 'Watch your speed. We are' together with a speed camera logo........ The driver appeared to be asleep. Also spotted on a similar bridge close to Brands Hatch last summer, a silver Citroen van with no markings, an open side door and a b****y great laser gun pointing down the road. I was doing 70mph in the inside lane in the se7en, being overtaken by all and sundry, but guess who the laser was tracking..............sad.gif
CHRIS CLARK
Today (Sunday) travelling along the M2 in Kent. Police car quite along way ahead. Speed restricted to 50mph due extended road works.Him in inside lane (of the two operating lanes). Me in MG in outside lane doing 50 mph with three cars in front. They all tuck in behind him and he slows to about 45mph. I continue past at 50 and very slowly get away from him. Suddenly, he's alongside gesticulating with five fingers (50mph ) I look at the speedo (52mph indicated) look annoyed at him and stick five fingers up. We pass through speed camera & it stays 'off'. He pulls off at next junction. I just get p****d off that they 1) bother at all for no apparent reason 2) Must have by their account have gone faster than 50 to 'catch' me but 3) don't even have the decency to go & see the guy who I told 'em stole my speed boat a while back Toooooooooooo much effort and, God forbid, they may have to get out of the warm car!!! AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggghh. Sod 'em.
pinkprincess
52mph between (at a guess) Chatham and Gillingham Chris?! Let that be a lesson to you! wink.gif Damn unfortunate to have a patrol car and the camera (three-quarters of the way down the straight between J3 & J4) though. But I know of more than one driver in the area who's 'had a flash' from the stationary cameras and what I believe are Fiat Scudo vans with cameras on the motorway bridges around here. I've resorted to sticking to 50 (40 nearer the Chatham turn-off) because they're clearly for revenue purposes rather than the safety aspect of narrower lanes due to the 'widening' of the M2 (sounds contradictory, but true!) They sometimes even put a temporary sign up showing how many cars they've nicked! sad.gifmad.gif Lotus 7, Slick 50 confused.gifteeth.gif
paul jacobs
Not that I'm advocating it, but I just can't understand why the British motorist isn't more proactive in dealing with revenue gathering "road safety" equipment? We've got people who have absolutely no respect for other peoples goods and chatels, but won't get off their backsides and do something about roadside speed cameras, even when certain speed limits have been lowered to ensure that the motorist WILL be driving at more than the posted speed limit. There are more of us than there are of them, so what's the problem? Red 245bhp Vauxhall powered 21 [Now For Sale]
Barry
Paul, We've got people who have absolutely no respect for other peoples goods and chatels, but won't get off their backsides and do something about roadside speed cameras I suspect that the problem is that this sort of person won't be driving their own car anyway, and therefore have nothing to gain by doing something about it. Julians Biatch
Personally i wouldn't mind them much if they put them in dnager spots and used the money for public good... ie, fixing the bloody roads! They could even donate some of the money to NTL!
mark4newman
The channel 4 programme about this was good...the number of Traffic cops down, number of speed cameras up...number of deaths on the roads up... M100EOW....
Red SLR
I found it funny that the first camera installed ran out of film after 1hr and in the end the trigger limit was set to 65mph! (in a 40 zone) X777CAT
Psycho man
Kent scratchings are in the running for Tosser Coppers of the Year award at the mo (so b warned cos I'm sure Essex wouldn't want to be toppled from their top spot by KFCC). Clearly another one of their OVER reactions, a few that they undertook over last weekend I hear. However try the A68 in Scotland, on the border with England. Mad tribes of Gatsos. A real taste of history, feeling like Ceasers' leigions, ambushes everywhere. An unfortunate last memory of Scotland - avoid it at all costs. grahamh
Not that I'm advocating it, but I just can't understand why the British motorist isn't more proactive in dealing with revenue gathering "road safety" equipment? Last autumn driving down the A40 between Northleach and Oxford, I saw 3 cameras in a row which appeared to have had a "accident" One was leaning over at a very unusual angle, another was flat on its back, virtually in a ditch, and a third looked like it been subject to an attempted "be-heading" (cube shaped bit flopped onto the pole, pointing at the ground). I don't know the road well, but all of the locations looked like revenue gatherers rather than accident preventers. They had been removed, but didn't appear to have been replaced, when I drove past again a couple of weeks ago. I don't advocate this type of vandalism either, particularly as my taxes will pay for the replacements, but it did amuse me! If the Police continue to believe that their duty is fund raising from harmless or relatively harmless motorists rather than pursuing the genuinely dangerous motorist, or shock horror, the serious criminal..... they can't be surprised when they lose the motorist's respect and co-operation, both in and out of the vehicle. Red SLR
I think you will find 99% of police officers these days go to work to earn money to live, not many do it for the queen any more. Simon. X777CAT
